Herbarium Collection Assistant volunteers are responsible for mounting herbarium specimens for preservation and storage. This role involves handling and gluing small, delicate plant specimens onto specialized paper. Volunteers are trained in our Museum’s specific mounting protocols, and are then expected to work independently on this project. Using their training, volunteers safely preserve plant specimens to add to our collection and support ongoing research of the natural world.
Training Required:
On their first day in the collection, volunteers will get a tour of the Garrett Herbarium and on-the-job training.
Shift times:
Weekday mornings, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., weekly
Weekday afternoons, 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., weekly
Time Commitment: One shift per week is requested for a duration of 6 months, but more is always appreciated!
Age Requirement: 16 years or older
