At Greenwich Country Day School, we view college counseling as a natural extension of the academic and personal journey each student has undergone since entering the Upper School. Because students are at the heart of all that we do at GCDS, our approach to college counseling is intensely personalized. Tailored around specific needs, abilities, and interests, we guide our student and their families every step of the way as they navigate the increasingly complex college application landscape.
During the 9th and 10th grade years, through class-wide meetings and parent-specific programming, students and families are given valuable and timely advice to ensure that students enter the junior year informed and prepared to engage in the more focused phase of the college process.
Our 11th and 12th grade students engage in a robust college counseling program. Each member of the junior class participates in college seminar, a weekly course run by the College Counseling Office, which covers a wide range of topics aimed at ensuring that each of our students is well-positioned to identify an appropriate college "fit" and become successful college applicants. We care deeply about our work with our main goal being that each GCDS senior presents the strongest applications possible and enrolls at a college or university where he or she will thrive and continue to build on the many gains they have made during their time as Tigers.
In a few short years, we have seen the inaugural groups of GCDS graduates get admitted to colleges and universities across the country and even around the world: the culmination of a multiyear journey of self-reflection, strong student-faculty relationships, and the identification of institutions that meet individual academic and personal interests. While we fully understand that the college process is one that is frequently met with uncertainty and trepidation, we also see it as a chance for our students to demonstrate the best version of themselves; it asks that they have fun with the process of self-exploration.
