Students should know the rules and basic techniques for serving and volleying in the game of pickle ball.
Students should know how serves alternate and the scoring system, be able to identify the non-volley zone (kitchen), and understand the two bounce rule before volleys are allowed.

Scoring:
In pickleball only the serving team scores points. The receiving team attempts to stop them and gain the serve. If a server scores they get to keep going (rally style). When a fault (a mistake) is committed by the serving team the server gives the ball to their teammate. Their teammate serves and tries to score as many points as possible after the second fault is committed by the serving team the ball is given to the opposing team and they begin serving to score as many points possible for their team. In pickleball games are usually played to 11 points, win by 2.
Serving:
Servers must stand behind the line and toss the ball then strike the ball underhand below the waist. Servers are not allowed to bounce the ball and strike it over the net. The ball must be served diagonally to the opposing teams court, and land in the boundary past the kitchen. Servers should say their score, their opposing teams score and their server number (1 or 2) before serving. A good serve is balanced, rhythmic, quick and low over the net, and struck on the center of the paddle with follow through.
Double bounce rule:
After the serve, the receiving team must let the ball bounce in their court one time before returning the ball to the serving team AND the serving team must let the ball bounce in their court one time before returning the ball. After the ball has bounced in bounds on each court players can volley the ball as long as they are not standing or finishing their volley in the kitchen (the kitchen is the seven foot box next to the net).
