Course Description
In physical and health education students will participate in team games, sports, exercise, stretching, nutrition and health related course work. They will gain knowledge and understanding of sports and a healthy diet, keep record of their strength, flexibility and endurance ability, plan for performance and reflect on their experiences.
Required Material:
Students should bring a water bottle and wear tennis shoes with laces that are secured. Athletic clothing is preferred, no tight jeans, dresses, boots or sandals.
Grading Policy
50% of their grade is for daily participation. This includes being on time, dressed correctly (tennis shoes are required), for being safe and respectful, and for giving effort. Five points per day, this grade will be updated weekly in Aeries.
50% of their grade is for IB units.
For tasks that are assessed using the IB criteria, an IB achievement level of 1-8 is determined and entered in both Aeries and Mangebac grade books. The IB score is converted into a percentage when placed into Aeries. The conversion table is given with each new unit letter.

Final letter grades are determined as follows:

I hope you had a relaxing, fun and healthy summer. My name is Mr. Burkhead and I will be your Physical Education teacher this year.
§ The goal is to keep students healthy and active, accountable for their daily exercise, health and wellness. Topics include muscle and strength building, flexibility training, cardiovascular health, and nutrition.
o The classwork will be updated weekly and can be turned in via the google classroom site. Assignments include topic knowledge designing exercise plans, nutrition, physical fitness testing, and health and wellness reflections.
o Weekly assignments due every Friday.
