Science and social study based standards are the building blocks on which our school builds our IB units. Standards are embedded within these inquiry based units and these "big ideas" drive all instruction. The way in which our teacher leaders incorporate the science and social study standards into the 6 transdisciplinary themes can be seen in our Program of Inquiry posted below.
All science based instruction at EPIC follows the new Next Generation Science Standards, also known as NGSS. The NGSS were created to change the way we as educators teach science. The new standards promote science based learning through critical thinking and problem solving. More information about the NGSS can be found below:
The California State Board of Education adopted a new History-Social Studies Framework on July 14th, 2016. This new framework incorporates "big questions" into each standard area. These big questions are meant to promote critical thought about the subject matter. More information about this new frame work can be found on the California Department of Education website.
