The TCS Department is offering three modes of class delivery this fall: Online, Live Online, and Hybrid
Some of our courses allow you to choose which format of course you want to take. Other courses are taught only in a single format in order for faculty to meet the learning objectives and have time to create the best experience possible for students. Check Find-A-Class for your options.
Just like in-person classes, online, and live online classes include textbook readings, homework assignments & activities, and quizzes & exams that are due on a regular basis throughout the semester. Where online and live online classes differ from in-person classes is how "lecture" is provided, how students interact with one another and their professor, and whether students meet live or only online.
Both online and live online classes use the Canvas learning management system, which is provided to all students. Access it here in your browser or download the app for iPhone or Android.
Live Online
Lecture is provided through a combination of live meetings, recordings, and readings.
Students interact during live meetings and through discussion boards, online activities, group work, email or other conversations with their classmates and professor.
Students are required to meet online through weekly live video conference meetings. Find-A-Class shows when those meetings will occur.
The advantages of live online include: live sessions that simulate the face-to-face experience, a reliable schedule to support time management, enhanced opportunities to engage interactively with classmates.
Hybrid
Lecture is provided in a face-to-face format on campus at the time listed in the class schedule.
The in-person class sections have been split up to make sure there is a long enough passing period to disinfect an area between in person classes.
In addition to in-person class time part of this course will be held online without a set time to attend.
Based on the state’s response to COVID-19, these courses may shift to Online or Live Online.
Online
Lecture is provided through a combination of recordings and readings.
Students interact through discussion boards, online activities, group work, email or other conversations with their classmates and professor.
Students meet online with no required live video conference meetings, although live meetings may be optional.
The advantages of online include: maximum flexibility to work at times that are best for you, adaptable to work or family schedule changes during the semester, easier for those who share bandwidth or computer resources.
