Students with Disabilities

Welcome to the Curriculum Resources page for Students with Disabilities

Seventy-nine percent (79%)* of Gloucester County Public School (GCPS) students who receive special education services are served within the general education classroom setting for more than 80% of their school day. They engage in the same standards-based GCPS Curriculum as peers who do not receive special education services. Students who receive special education services also receive specially designed instruction according to their individual needs as determined by their IEP team**.

Gloucester County Public Schools (GCPS) PreK-12 students, whose IEP teams have determined the Virginia Essentialized Standards of Learning (VESOL) are most appropriate, will be using Unique Learning Systems as the curriculum framework in their classrooms. This program is designed for students with special learning needs. It is a comprehensive program that includes differentiated reading, writing, math, science, and social studies curriculum that aligns with Virginia's VESOL and the Virginia Alternate Assessment Program (VAAP). Teachers will also be integrating their knowledge of the science of reading and developmental math, that is being utilized across GCPS's core curriculum, according to their students' individual needs as determined by the IEP team.
