Indian cities are witnessing rapid expansion, which has significantly intensified environmental pressures such as deteriorating air and water quality, unscientific solid waste disposal, shrinking green spaces, and increased climate-related risks including heat stress, flooding, water scarcity and health. These issues are no longer only ecological or engineering concerns; rather, they are fundamentally shaped by governance performance, institutional coordination, policy delivery mechanisms, and social inequities.
Despite the existence of multiple national and state programmes such as the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), Smart Cities Mission, AMRUT, National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), and urban climate resilience initiatives—implementation continues to face challenges due to fragmented institutional roles, inadequate regulatory enforcement, limited technical and administrative capacity at local bodies, and insufficient citizen participation.

It brings together researchers, academicians, industry professionals, policymakers, and community stakeholders to exchange knowledge, share innovative solutions, and foster collaborations aimed at sustainable and resilient development.
