EducaTorch means that as educators, we are the beacon of hope for students on their journey to success. It also represents passion—an educator should be passionate about everything they do in the profession of teaching; they must keep the fire burning.

My mother used to say that I should take the education program because it is practical. At first, I considered her idea, however, I’ve come to realized that the field of education offers much more than just practical benefits. That is why I chose this program for self growth and the chance to inspire young minds. Education is not only transformative for us but it has the ability to change others, and I want to be part of that change. My name is Alleyssa Ashley C. Parro and I am passionate about guiding students discover their passion and honing their skills as an individual. Now, I am on my fourth year as an undergraduate student taking up Bachelor of Elementary Education at Naga College Foundation Inc. As a student teacher, I learned many lessons: how to be flexible, and how powerful the role of teacher can be in the students’ growth.

Throughout my time as a student teacher, I’ve had the privilege of working with diverse groups of students and teachers, which has provided me with invaluable experiences in classroom management, lesson planning, adapting to different learning styles and most importantly invaluable experiences that opens my eyes to the reality of the life of struggling students inside the classroom and beyond. Another eye-opening experience for me was during the one-on-one session in the National Reading Program (NRP), my students said “Teacher, dawa dae mo na po ako tawanan nin regalo o prize basta po tabangan mo lang po ako makanuod magbasa nin English saka Filipino. Iyan na po ang regalo na gusto ko.” that was the moment I realized that in addition to providing valuable knowledge, the role of the teacher is to inspire a genuine love for learning. My cooperating teacher constantly reminded me that teaching is more than just in between the walls of the classroom, it is developing relationships with every student. I’ve learned that accepting and appreciating each individual differences of my student for who they are, goes a long way towards being the best teacher possible.

Through this process and journey in this career, I hope to instill passion for learning in every learners. My goal is to guide them in their holistic development so that they may grow to be lifelong learners who approach challenges with confidence and curiosity.

I created this portfolio to showcase my teaching philosophy and the insights I gained during my internship as a student teacher. Through this portfolio, I aim to showcase the strengths that will help me become a skilled and effective educator.
