Having fun learning to play instruments in a group! Students will learn:
How to play their instrument
How to read music
How to work as a team to accomplish a goal
To love music!
The majority of students have never played an instrument before being in 6th grade band, and that's OK!

Combination lock - optional (if a student chooses to use a school band locker - more information below)

Performance Dates & Attendance Policy
Concerts are mandatory and a core part of the music curriculum.
Performing for a live audience is an essential learning experience, and to sound our best, every student’s presence is vital! Because of this, concert participation is weighted like a unit test or final exam.
Excused Absences:
If a student must miss a performance due to an illness, family emergency, or a pre-approved circumstance, they will be given an opportunity to complete a make-up assignment for full credit. Please submit written communication regarding any potential schedule conflicts as far in advance as possible.
Unexcused Absences:
Any performance absence without prior parent/guardian communication is considered unexcused and will result in a score of zero for the concert grade.
How are students graded daily in band?
How are students graded daily in band?
Band students will receive a 5 point daily grade based on the following factors:
Being prepared - ready to learn with instrument, music, pencil
Rehearsal Skills - a lot of time will be spent teaching and explaining what a band student does during a rehearsal. The main factors are fully participating in the class, and not disrupting the educational process.
Practicing At Home
Practicing At Home
Yes, your student should bring their instrument home to practice! While we do not track or log practice time, it is the expectation that students spend some time on their instrument outside of class. Especially at the start of the year, students will GREATLY benefit from practicing their instrument on their own.
Student are also able to stay after school on Thursdays for BAND JAM! Click here to learn more about BAND JAM!
The Friday Rotation for Band/PE will be shared soon!
For example, it says September 13 - T/Th. That means that students attend the class they have on Tuesdsay and Thursday. If they have Band on Tuesday/Thursday they would go to band on September 13. If they have PE on Tuesday/Thursday they would go to PE on September 13.
