Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
Definition: UDL is a proactive educational framework that aims to create flexible learning environments to accommodate the widest range of learners from the outset, not just those with disabilities.
Focus: Designing for variability in all learners, including differences in ability, background, interest, and learning style.
Principles: Multiple means of engagement (motivation and interest) | Multiple means of representation (ways of presenting information) | Multiple means of action and expression (ways for students to demonstrate learning).
Examples: Offering options for reading (text, audio, video) | Allowing students to choose how they complete an assignment (essay, video, presentation) | Using interactive and collaborative learning tools.
