Session A: The Uneasy Embrace: Community College Educators’ Apprehension and Acceptance of Generative AI in Academia, Dr. Tammy Taber, IE Copper Room
Description: What drives community college educators to adopt generativeAI in teaching and learning? Join Dr. Tammy Taber to learn about the findings of her dissertation through a quantitative study exploring how factors such as pedagogy, self-efficacy, experimentation, and peer influence shape educators’intention to use GAI. Grounded in various well known technology adoption frameworks along with Social Cognitive Theory and the recently tested EPICC framework (Taber, 2026), the study reveals that confidence and instructional fit matter more than policy alone. Join the conversation as we explore how community colleges are balancing innovation, ethics, creativity, and caution in the evolving world of AI in education.

Session B: Death to Post & Reply!: Subverting Discussion Technology to Create Engagement & Learning, Tom Smith, IE 2201
Description: In this session, participants will be challenged to reimagine LMS discussion tools as flexible spaces for active learning. Participants will explore practical ways to use familiar discussion board functionality to facilitate structured debates, Jigsaw-style peer teaching, case analysis, role-playing scenarios, and collaborative problem solving. Through concrete examples and adaptable design strategies, educators will learn how to create more purposeful interactions, strengthen learner accountability, encourage multiple perspectives, and transform asynchronous discussion tech into engaging experiences that promote deeper thinking and meaningful application.
Session C: Classroom Management, Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) & CAREs Reporting, Dr. Ebony Anderson & Sarah Hanley, IE 2202
Description: This presentation provides faculty with practical strategies for effective classroom management while introducing key student support and intervention resources available at the college. Participants will learn techniques for fostering a positive learning environment, recognizing and responding to concerning student behaviors, understanding the role of the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT), and utilizing CARES reporting to connect students with appropriate support services.
Session A: Ghosts in the Roster: Identifying Fraudulent Students in Community College Asynchronous Courses, Sarah Hanley & Dr. Tammy Taber, IE Copper Room
Description: What are Ghost Students? Ghost students are fraudulent enrollments in primarily asynchronous courses, using stolen or synthetic identities. This has been a growing concern and challenge for community colleges. Faculty are often among the first to notice suspicious patterns but may struggle to distinguish fraud from student disengagement. This session explores common red flags, the role of AI and automation, and practical strategies for identifying, documenting, and reporting concerns.

Session B: Leganto & OER with the Library, Amanda Takacs, IE 2201
Description: This presentation introduces the library’s new Course Materials Organizer (CMO) called Leganto. With Leganto, you can build lists of library resources, web content, streaming media, physical items and your own files. You can reuse these lists each semester. We'll talk about how this is useful for you and easy for your students! I will also demonstrate how this Canvas-integrated tool can act as a launching pad for your Open Educational Resources (OER), if you so choose. We will check out how to discover and access OER items using Pressbooks and how I can help you to seek out OER materials.
Session C: Bridging Classroom and Support: A Student Services Panel for Educators, Student Affairs Team, IE 2202
Description: This panel brings together student services professionals to help educators better understand the resources available to support their students. Panelists will cover what their departments offer, how and when to make a referral, and what to expect throughout that process. The goal is to strengthen collaboration between educators and student services in support of student success.
Moderator: Dr. Ebony Anderson
Panelists: D'Vette Denaci (Academic Advising), Turquoise Evans (Disability Resources & Services), Jameyla Troy (Student Life & Leadership), Carlos Ortiz (Social Worker), and Ana Chandler-Magana (TRIO)
