COURSE OVERVIEW
In Animation 1, students learn about the history of animation and the techniques associated with it. They learn traditional animation skills like rotoscoping, stop-motion, and cel animation and combine them with digital programs like Adobe After Effects and Photoshop.
"What If" Story Assignment
When working in groups, pick three things/objects and select three locations you are interested in. Once you have those elements, combine them to tell a "What if?" story. Include dialog and artwork as well.
Animation 101
Students learn about the history of early animation, the types of animation, and the 12 Principles of Animation.
The Bouncing Ball Animation
They use the Principles of Sqaush and Stretch, Timing, Anticipation, and more!
Students learn how to create a Bouncing Ball animation and how the Principles of Animation are applied to it.
Arcs and Timing Animations
Taking what they learned with the Bouncing Ball, students create animations using Arcs and Timing.
Creating stories using those and other Animation Principles.
Rotoscope Animation
Students take live-action footage and draw over it using rotoscope animation.
RotoBird Assignment
Rotoscope animations in Adobe Photoshop. They start by tracing the outlines and details of a Green Bird and drawing it on the computer frame-by-frame, and then coloring it in.
RotoApe Assignment
Using Adobe After Effects to create a rotoscope of a Gorilla using the Rotobrush and Pen Tools. Adding colors and a background to the animation.
