Grade 1 French Immersion Information Session

Dear Senior Kindergarten Families,

A face-to-face information session will be held on Thursday, January 19th from 6:30 p.m. until 7:15 PM at Reesor Park P.S.

Map/Directions

December 4, 2022

Grade 1 French Immersion Information Sessions and Registration

The following information is regarding French Immersion registration for Senior Kindergarten families.

What is French Immersion?

  • In French Immersion, students receive instruction in French in a variety of subjects from a teacher who speaks French fluently.

  • The French Immersion program begins in Grade 1 and is designed for children whose first language is not French.

  • In Grades 1, 2 and 3, all subjects are taught in French. Starting in Grade 4, time is shared equally between French and English instruction.

  • The French Immersion program continues in high school.

  • Secondary school students must earn at least 10 French Immersion credits to qualify for the French Immersion Certificate upon graduation.

Important Considerations

    • For the first few months of Grade 1, the children do not acquire skills identical to those learned by children in an English program as the focus is on learning in French.

    • There may be certain lags in English Language Arts skills in the first few years of the program, but by the end of the elementary grades, successful French Immersion students perform as well as their peers in a regular English program.

    • Communication with parents/guardians is in English including, but not limited to, report cards, newsletters and parent-teacher interviews.

    • Reading to a child at home in a child's native language can strengthen literacy skills. Research studies confirm that children achieve greater academic success when parents read frequently (daily) to them.

    • There is only one entry point into French immersion in YRDSB; Grade 1.

Information Sessions

This year our Information session for Grade 1 entry into the French Immersion (FI) program will take place in French Immersion schools on January 19, 2023. Program locations and additional information is available on our website. If you’re unable to attend the information session, you can hear all about the French Immersion program on the Tune In YRDSB: French Immersion Podcast.

Registration

FI registration will begin on January 20, 2023. Parents or guardians of Senior Kindergarten students entering Grade 1 in 2023, and wishing to enrol in the FI Program, can email or call their home school office and indicate their intention to enrol. The home school will

notify the French Immersion school, and the French Immersion school will contact you by phone or email to collect any necessary information. You are asked to register by February 6, 2023. Registration during this period is not first come, first served.

Late Registrations

Late registrations are those submitted after February 6, 2023. Late registrations will be treated on a first-come, first-served basis and will be considered subsequent to registrations received during the registration period should overflow be necessary.

Accommodation Plan

YRDSB’s FI Accommodation Plan provides long-term consistency and equity of access to all students in York Region and will enable YRDSB to continue to offer the FI program to all who wish to enrol. The FI program will be offered in Dual Track or Single Track settings, in a variety of configurations. In order to meet community needs and optimize available space in our schools, a community's Grade 1-8 FI program may be provided over more than one school during the course of a student's FI education. Space requirements at some schools may mean that siblings are in different schools for primary dual track French Immersion programs due to differing grade structures. Like any of our schools across the Board, changes to school boundaries, and/or the accommodation model for the French Immersion program may need to be considered when new schools open, a school experiences enrolment growth and program changes occur. This will allow flexibility in addressing community needs and the opportunity to use existing space in schools.

More information is available on the Board’s website: www.yrdsb.ca. Please note: Some of the FI accommodation plans will require facility modifications or the development of new schools and will require short-term transition plans that might include overflow while we work toward the long-term vision. Overflow refers to situations in which the Board directs students to attend a school other than their community school or optional program for a specific period of time, as defined in Policy #108.

Parent/Teacher Interviews

Thank you to students, parents and staff for your participation in interviews and student-led conferences. We hope that the dialogue initiated will support regular communications between home and school as we work collectively for the betterment of our students. Parents who haven’t met with their child’s teacher are expected to do so. Staff will welcome the opportunity to work with families to collectively support our students.

Charitable Campaigns

Central Park Public School’s Community Outreach Committee is running a charitable campaign during the holiday season. They are spearheading a campaign to collect nonperishable food items for our local food banks, as well as toys for York Regional Police's Holiday Toy-Drive Campaign. Our students continue to develop their social consciousness and understand that they can make a difference to support those in need both in our community and beyond. All donations will be collected from students' homeroom classes. We would like to thank families in advance for your continued support and generosity. Please watch out for further information regarding the opportunity to support these campaigns that will run over the next few weeks. Well done Eagles!

Every Student Counts Survey 2022-23

This communication is also available in the following languages: Arabic, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Farsi, Gujarati, Hebrew, Korean, Punjabi, Russian, Tamil, Turkish, Urdu, and Vietnamese.

Dear Families,

Student and family input is important to us. The York Region District School Board will be conducting the Every Student Counts Survey with students (Grades K-12) to help us better understand our student population and school communities.

The information will be used to inform Board and school planning that aims to improve student achievement and well-being, identify and eliminate barriers, and create more equitable and inclusive school environments.

The surveys will include questions related to:

  • engagement and learning

  • well-being and mental health

  • course pathways in high school

  • safety, discrimination and bullying

  • relationships with peers and staff

  • equitable and inclusive learning environments

  • student identity (demographics)

We ask questions about students’ identities (e.g., race and gender) to support understanding how learning experiences may differ among groups of students.

In the Spring of 2023, students in Grades 4-12 will be invited to complete the student survey and will be provided with in-class time to complete it. Students from Grades K-3 will be invited to complete a survey at home with their parent, guardian or caregiver. Translated versions of the K-3 survey will be available.

Help us learn about students in our school community.

To ensure equitable access to the survey, accommodations will be made for participants with varying exceptionalities. For your reference, a copy of the survey will be available on the Board website prior to the survey implementation.

Surveys are voluntary and confidential but not anonymous. This means that students will not be asked for their identifying information, such as their name. Individual responses will not be reported. Storage and retention of data will follow Board Policy and Procedure #160.0 Records and Information Management.

This important initiative offers students and families an opportunity to share their experiences so the Board can understand the needs of various groups of students and identify barriers to learning. Results from the surveys will be shared with Trustees, schools, Board departments, and the public during the 2023-24 school year.

Families will have the opportunity to provide feedback during the survey development phase. More information will be communicated to families when available.

In 2018, YRDSB conducted our first Every Student Counts Survey and the data from that survey is available on the Board website.

If you have questions about the survey, please visit the Board website for more information or contact research.services@yrdsb.ca.

Thank you for your support.

Cold & Flu Season

Cold and Flu season are here. Be prepared by getting the flu shot and consider getting a COVID booster shot as early as possible.

What do the experts say?

Experts say children can easily transmit illnesses to each other, whether it’s a cold, the flu, or COVID-19.

  • Experts are urging parents not to send children to school if they’re sick, even if their illness isn’t COVID-19.

  • They note that children can spread diseases quickly, and schools are prime locations for illnesses to thrive.

  • Experts say a child should stay home from school for a minimum of 24 hours after symptoms have disappeared, and even longer if the illness is COVID-19.

Health experts are urging parents to keep their children home when they’re sick, no matter what their illness may be.

How can the colds, the flu and COVID be avoided?

  • Get vaccinated!

  • Wear a mask when indoors or amongst large crowds of people

  • Wash your hands well and often with soap and warm water. If soap and water are unavailable, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer

  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and throw the tissue out immediately. Wash your hands afterward. Cough into your upper sleeve if you don’t have a tissue.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth

  • Avoid large crowds and stay home when you are sick

  • Keep common surfaces and items clean and disinfected

We kindly ask that families don't send their children to school when they are exhibiting symptoms.

Severe Weather Days

School Transportation Cancellations

School transportation (buses and taxis) may be cancelled due to extreme cold or inclement weather. On these days, schools will remain open unless otherwise stated. If school transportation is cancelled in the morning, it will also be cancelled in the afternoon. Any special or hot lunch days and field trips will also be cancelled.

Families should use their best judgment to decide whether to send their children to school on extreme cold or inclement weather days. Students will not be penalized for missing school on those days. For safety reasons, please let the school know if your child will not be attending school that day.

School Closures

Emergency closures will be considered when conditions may not be safe for students and staff members to attend school for the full day. This may include events that significantly limit school operations or access to the school site (e.g., widespread, prolonged power failures or downed power lines).

In keeping with our current practice, we will continue to keep our schools open as much as possible. However, it is important that families have alternate childcare arrangements planned for the rare occasions when schools may be closed. Before and aftercare programs will not operate if schools are closed.

Communication to Families

Decisions about school transportation and school closures will be made as early as possible and no later than 6:00 a.m. We will do our best to notify families in advance when we may be considering closing school and Board offices. Transportation cancellations or school closures are communicated through:

For more information on severe weather days, please visit our website www.yrdsb.ca.

Come to School Dressed for the Weather

During the cold fall and winter months, students can stay warm by wearing layers of loose-fitting clothing, a hat, scarf, and mittens or gloves. If students walk to school, bright coloured and reflective pieces of clothing help make them visible to motorists and traffic. Students should also consider bringing extra pants and socks in case they get wet. We recommend that students bring extra masks to school to ensure that they are wearing dry masks while inside the school.

The principal decides at the time of each recess whether students will remain inside, or go out for shortened or full period recess by keeping a close eye on weather conditions, including temperature, wind chill, sun/cloud conditions and wind velocity. Send your child to school dressed and ready for outdoor play. Students will be supervised in their classroom during recess and lunch hour whenever an indoor recess is necessary.

It's Flu Season

Flu season is here. Be prepared by getting the flu shot and consider getting a COVID booster shot as early as possible.

How can the flu and COVID be avoided?

  • Get the flu shot!

Central Park GSA

Central Park PS is thrilled to announce that it is starting up its GSA (Gender and Sexuality Alliance). A GSA is a club for students who identify as 2SLGBTQ+, and for students who want to be allies in supporting the 2SLGBTQ+ community. The club is supervised by teacher advisors.

Our school and the York Region Board of Education believe that all students must be treated with respect and dignity and all students must have access to schools where they feel safe, welcome, accepted and included.

At Central Park, we are committed to eliminating harmful biases and prejudice that lead to discrimination and exclusion of our 2SLGBTQ+ students, staff and families. Having a GSA at our school not only provides a safe place for our 2SLGBTQ+ students and their allies to meet, discuss topics of interest, and work on important initiatives, it also signals to all students that we will not stand for bullying of any kind, including bullying against 2SLGBTQ+ students.

We are committed to upholding the principles outlined in the following:

  • Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms

  • Ontario Human Rights Code

  • The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms

  • Bill 157: Keeping our Kids Safe at School

  • Policy 119: Developing and Implementing Equity and Inclusive Education Policies in Ontario Schools

  • YRDSB’s Equity and Inclusive Education Policy

  • YRDSB’s Caring and Safe Schools policy

  • YRDSB’s Equity Action Plan

  • The Director’s Action Plan

We also recognize the diversity within our 2SLGBTQ+ communities and acknowledge the intersectionality of other often marginalized identities (e.g. indigenous, racialized, disabled, etc.).

Thank you for your support of this extremely important club which will only serve to make our school a safe place for all!

Central Park's Autumn Celebration
October 31, 2022

Thank you to Krista Ng, a community member and former Central Park parent, who has graciously donated her time and talent to create this year's Halloween display. She never ceases to amaze us with her artistic and creative abilities. On behalf of the staff and students, we thank you, Krista!

We welcome the return of Central Park's Autumn Celebration. On October 31st, Central Park will engage in activities that promote the spirit of celebrating our community. Activities will include a primary costume/autumn colours parade, a pumpkin decorating contest, a dance, and a Spook-a-thon raffle. Every child will be given a complimentary raffle ticket to put towards a raffle prize of their choosing. Through School Cash Online, parents can purchase additional raffle tickets for their children. Students will receive their tickets on the day of Spook-a-thon and be given an opportunity to place their tickets towards the prize of their choosing prior to the raffle draw. All proceeds raised will go towards supporting school based initiatives in consultation with School Council.

Each year, many students choose to show off their Halloween spirit by dressing up in costumes that meet our school’s dress code. This year, students will be able to dress up on Monday, October 31st.

In order to support our Covid-19 guidelines, please consider the following:

  • costumes should be attire-based and worn to school; students are discouraged to use washrooms to change into costumes

  • emphasize simple costumes with limited accessories and without excessive makeup that might prompt students to touch their face

  • no Halloween masks are to be worn ( students are still encouraged to wear medical masks) and no gloves that might interfere with regular hand hygiene routines

  • students may also consider wearing orange and black or autumn colours instead of costumes

Please note that on October 31st, the focus of the day remains on instruction, any Halloween related activities are optional, and students will have a choice to participate in alternative activities.

While students will be allowed to dress up, they must follow Board Protocol. York Region District School Board’s Safe Schools Policy #668.0 in accordance with the Ontario Safe Schools Act, includes the following mandatory expulsion criteria: “A student shall be expelled from school if the student commits one or more of the following infractions while at school or engaged in a school-related activity (as set out in the Ontario Code of Conduct): (a) possessing a weapon or replica weapon, including a firearm.” Students celebrating this occasion in costume at our school must comply with this policy. Costume accessories including, but not limited to, toy guns, knives, axes, swords, etc. are not in compliance with York Region District School Board’s Safe Schools Policy #668.0.

Similarly, costumes should be respectful of others. For example, if something is representative of a person’s culture or religious beliefs, then it should not be worn as another person’s costume. Costumes that caricature social identities through stereotyping are not permitted. Please ensure that the costumes our students wear to school do not trivialize or devalue the lives of our Indigenous Peoples or various cultural/racialized groups.

As always, we wish to promote healthy eating at our school, and strongly discourage students from bringing candies that are in abundance around Halloween to school. We kindly ask our community to be especially mindful that nut and nut products —often found in Halloween candy—are not brought into the school, as well. Central Park P.S. strongly encourages healthy snacks, where snacking on such items as fruits and vegetables, is preferred.

We hope all our students who celebrate have a fun, safe, and healthy Halloween!

Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation - September 30th

Every year on September 30, Canadians observe Gchi Piitendaagoziwag Binoojiinyag- Every Child Matters ᑭᒋ ᐱᑌᐣᑕᑯᓯᐘᐠ ᐱᓄᒋᐣᔭᐠ Orange Shirt Day. It is a day to educate and promote awareness of residential schools and their lasting legacies of trauma, suffering and genocide of Indigenous Peoples. These institutions were designed to assimilate Indigenous children and to eradicate Indigenous cultural practices. The topic of residential schools first appears in curriculum content starting in grade 6, however, given the observance of Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, many educators K-12 will take on this topic as part of their instructional program.

In 2021, First Nations independently began to locate the unmarked graves of thousands of Indigenous children at the sites of former residential schools. This has sparked many Canadians to rethink what they thought they knew about these institutions and revisit the way they speak to students about them. We encourage YRDSB staff and students to wear an orange shirt on September 30, 2022, to recognize the resiliency, bravery and survivance of Residential School Survivors and those who did not come home.

To facilitate conversations around the difficult topic of residential schools, some suggested activities and resources for all grade divisions have been prepared for educators in both English and French (intended for French Immersion). These resources are available to our school staff through the YRDSB.

Resources for Families and Students

There are a number of resources on the York Region District School Board website (www.yrdsb.ca) that families and students may find helpful.

Translation

  • There is a built-in translation tool on the website that translates website content into over 100 languages.

  • The translation page has tips on using translation options in other tools, such as Google, Edsby and YouTube. The page also includes videos in 13 languages about how to use the translation tool on the website.

Family Resources

YORK REGION PUBLIC HEALTH

Dear Grade 7 & 8 Families,

Please see this message from York Region Public Health regarding the upcoming Fall 2022 campaign of In-school immunization clinics offering Hepatitis B, meningitis, and HPV vaccines to students in Grades 7-12.

Reminder: School Start-Up Forms

Dear Parents/Guardians,

At the start of each school year, schools share with families a package of information about the school. Families will also receive a copy of the Guide to the School Year booklet in the coming weeks. We also ask families to complete some important forms. These forms are now available online.

Please complete and submit these online School Start-Up Forms through your child’s YRDSB Google account.

  • You can access your child's YRDSB Google account via a web browser. For best results, use a computer rather than a mobile phone.

  • The username is your child's YRDSB Student Number. Your child will receive their login information from the school at the start of the year. If you
or your child do not know the password to log in to their Google account, please contact your child's teacher or the school office.

  • Frequently asked questions and additional information on how to complete the forms are available on the Board website under Family Resources (click on the “Need Help” link for Family Start-Up Forms.

It is important that these forms are completed as soon as possible at the start of the school year. There are both mandatory and optional forms. The forms are to be completed for all students, whether they are attending school in person or participating in remote, online learning. Your child's school will access the information.

Please complete a separate form for each child attending our schools. Secondary school students will also be asked to review important school and Board policies and to indicate that they have reviewed this information on forms sent to their student GAPPS account.

If you prefer to complete the forms on paper or have questions about the information in the forms, please contact your school office.

Thank you.

Dear Central Park Families,

As we start a new school year, it is important to us that we provide a caring, safe and inclusive environment in our school that supports the academic achievement and well-being of all students. We are holding an assembly on Friday, September 16, 2022, to talk about some of the important elements of a caring and safe school. You may want to have a conversation with your child about what they are learning about and what we discuss. Topics covered include:

Inappropriate Behaviour

Students are learning about racism, discrimination and bullying and this learning will continue through the school year. Instances of racism, discrimination and bullying, are not acceptable and are addressed through progressive discipline.

Students also need to know about safe behaviours in schools including what not to bring to school such as peanut products, vape products, and weapons including replicas.

Reporting Behaviour

Standing up for one another and reporting when something does not feel safe is part of a caring and safe school environment. Students should report incidents that make them or others feel unsafe or uncomfortable including acts of racism, discrimination and bullying. Students can report incidents by:

  • Telling a caring adult

  • Using the YRDSB’s “Report It Button” (located on our school website) YRDSB’s online Report It button allows students and families to share information about inappropriate behaviour and/or incidents of hate or discrimination. Please see this video for additional information.

  • Contacting Kids Help Phone (1-800-668-6868)

YRDSB COMMUNICATION

Dear families,

We are so excited to be welcoming our students, staff and families back to school for the 2022-2023 school year. For most students, the school year will start on Wednesday, September 7, 2022.

We know you have many questions in advance of the start of the school year.

Health and Safety

The health and safety of our students, staff and families remains our first priority, and we will continue to follow the direction and guidance of the Government of Ontario and York Region Public Health.

The Ministry of Education has provided direction on supporting a return to a more normalized learning experience for students while maintaining specific protective measures. This includes:

· Students, staff members and school visitors are not required to wear masks in school. Individuals who feel more comfortable or who are advised to wear a mask can continue to wear a mask and will be supported in doing so.

· Students, staff members and visitors should continue to use and adhere to the COVID-19 School and Child-Care Screening Tool (please click on Check for Symptoms Daily), prior to entering the school daily.

· Hand hygiene and cleaning and disinfection protocols will continue. In addition, we will continue to follow our current ventilation practices, optimizing air quality in schools through improved ventilation and filtration.

Additional information about health and safety measures are available on the Board website at www.yrdsb.ca/school-reopening.

We also encourage families to read this important message from York Region Public Health about the return to school.

September 6, 2022, PA Day

We have received questions regarding the September 6, 2022, PA Day for Elementary and Secondary schools. This year, the Ministry of Education has required school boards to schedule a PA Day to ensure education staff complete the Ontario College of Teachers’ mandatory Sexual Abuse Prevention Training before the middle of September. Scheduling the training early, allows for more continuity as the school-year gets underway.

School Start-Up

In the coming weeks, families will receive an email from the board with important forms that you are required to complete at the start of each school year. They include important permissions and consents. Please take the time to complete the forms for each child when you receive them. The forms will be available in 13 additional languages.

Updated Health Forms

We are sharing a number of health-related forms that need to be completed for students with anaphylactic and/or other medical conditions. These forms have now been updated to allow you to fill them in electronically, and they are linked below.

If your child has an anaphylactic condition please complete an Anaphylactic Health Care Plan. Similarly, complete an Asthma Health Care Plan, a Type 1 Diabetes Health Care Plan or an Epilepsy/Seizure Disorder Health Care Plan, as needed. Finally, if your child has any other medical condition please complete a general Health Care Plan. We’d kindly ask that any of these forms be completed and delivered to our office staff at your earliest convenience, as appropriate.

Please note, these forms must be completed annually for children with an anaphylactic and/or other medical conditions. We thank our community for their help with gathering this important information.

We would like to share with our community that our first virtual School Council meeting and elections will be held on Tuesday, September 13th at 6:30 p.m. Those wishing to serve on the School Council as chair or co-chair, secretary, treasurer, or as an executive member need to complete a School Council Nomination Form (fillable form linked and also contained within the forthcoming electronic School Startup Forms Package). The completed form can be returned to the school office with your child, e-mailed back to the school email account, or completed within the forthcoming board electronic School Startup Forms Package. Those seeking a position must be in attendance at the first meeting. It is expected that School Council Executive members attend all regularly scheduled School Council meetings and events.

Please note that there can be many parents, guardians and community members who consistently attend School Council Meetings and strongly support School Council events who are not executive members. Everyone is welcome to attend and support the work of the school.

We will continue to conduct meetings virtually and links will be shared with parents/guardians who wish to attend. If you are interested in attending the first School Council Meeting and Elections, please register using this short form. The meeting link will be shared prior to the meeting with all registered participants. We thank you for your continued support of our school.

We look forward to working with the School Council this year!

NEXT VIRTUAL SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETING:

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13th, 2022 at 6:30 p.m.

GET INVOLVED.

LUNCH PROTOCOLS

Students are expected to bring their lunch and snack to school at the start of the school day. In the event that lunch is forgotten, parents can make arrangements with the office to drop off a lunch for their child.

In addition, students are strongly encouraged to remain at school for lunch. There may be circumstances where students are given permission to go home for lunch at 12:50 pm so we kindly ask that students when they return from home, enter through the main doors so that we can track their attendance.

BOOMERANG LUNCH

To minimize waste and enhance our cleaning efficiencies we need students to participate in our boomerang lunch program. This means that students will generate zero waste and will be expected to take home any green bin waste and all wrappings. Everyone's cooperation with this initiative will allow more time for our care taking team to engage in enhanced cleaning protocols throughout our school.

A waste-free lunch/snack contains no throwaway packaging and produces no food waste. Food and drinks are packed in reusable containers within a reusable lunch bag. As already mentioned, a boomerang lunch/snack means that any uneaten food and any waste material produced is returned home. For sanitary purposes, it is important that food and waste packaging be taken home in a resealable container or bag. Both a waste-free and a boomerang lunch allow parents to see what their children are actually eating during the day. A significant amount of waste is made up of unopened packaged foods, uneaten fruit, full juice boxes and half eaten sandwiches. Some Waste-Free Lunch/Snack Tips:

  • Use a reusable container for packing snacks/sandwiches (no more squished food)…empty margarine containers work well.

  • Cut fruit/vegetables into pieces so that some can be eaten at lunch and some can be saved for a snack later.

  • Label reusable containers to ensure they are easy to identify if they are misplaced.

  • Avoid drinks in packaging that cannot be resealed (especially for younger students) – NO glass bottles. After a few sips, drinks are often thrown out.

  • The Dollar Store carries reusable container and lunch bags – great deals!

* Please join in us in supporting this important initiative. We are
making a difference one lunch at a time!

NUT-FREE ENVIRONMENT

This is a reminder that Central Park is a nut-free environment due to the numerous students who may suffer the effects of anaphylaxis – a deathly reaction to allergens such as nuts, specifically peanuts or peanut by-products. We kindly ask that parents refrain from providing lunches that include nuts. In addition, we continue to have parents who purchase food items from various establishments and we respectfully request that parents stop this practice. Establishments such as McDonald’s and Tim Hortons no longer ensure that their products are nut-free so we kindly ask that families respect the safety of our children and not send these food items to school.

NO McDonald’s or Tim Hortons Products at School

Finally, we encourage parents/guardians to avoid the use of substitute peanut butter products. These products, such as Wowbutter, tend to look, taste, and smell very much like peanut butter. While the product is nut-free, it mimics a known allergen that causes anaphylaxis in some children to the degree that it is indistinguishable from the allergen. It is a convincing substitute, opening up the possibility that it can be confused with peanut butter, or worse yet, peanut butter could be confused with this soy-based product.

Thank you for your continued consideration and understanding.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are making plans and preparations to launch our lunch program. Please stay tuned for further information. More information regarding dates will be forthcoming.

If you have not already registered for online payments for each of your children, please click on the link below and register now. SCO Parent registration - Central Park PS.pdf

If you’re new to the York Region District School Board or have not yet set up an Edsby account, you will receive an invitation to do so. Edsby is an intuitive, cloud-based platform that allows families to engage with the school in various ways, including enabling parents to report student absences or to schedule a Parent-Teacher Interview in November.

If your already have an Edsby account, there’s nothing you need to do. If you do not have an Edsby account, please anticipate an email with instructions on activating your account. If you require any assistance with setting up your account, please don’t hesitate to contact the school office.

Our thanks for your support.

School Agendas

School agendas will be shared with students. This is one of many tools that can be used to develop students' time management skills and support home and school communications. The cost of the agendas is $5 and we kindly ask families to submit their payment through School Cash Online. Funds collected will be allocated to support school programming.

Bring Your Own Device to school is a practice accepted at Central Park. Even though we exercise strict cleaning protocols when handling devices, students may still feel more comfortable using their own personal devices where they have exclusive access to their own technology. The use of all technology is subject to the board's appropriate use policy. Please click on the adjacent image for further information.

Student Drop Off

We kindly ask that parents drop-off students in our Kiss-&-Ride area at the front of the school. Parents are not to enter the staff parking area to drop off students this area is reserved for staff or visitors to the building. Parent parking is only permitted if you have an appointment with the school office.

Be Mindful of Your Online Presence and Digital Footprint

It’s important to manage your online presence and digital footprint!

This past year, kids have faced unique challenges, as many of their in-person activities have been replaced with an increased use of technology. This has resulted in an unprecedented increased online presence and digital footprint for most of us, adults, and kids alike.

Everyone should assume that what is shared online will remain online forever. Every action you take online, and information posted about you contributes to your “digital footprint” which can straddle our personal, student and professional lives. Improving our awareness of the traces of data we leave online and recognizing how our individual digital footprints vary can help to improve the protection of our data online.
