To promote and enhance the health and wellbeing of the UWCSEA community through being a centre of health promotion and disease prevention.Â
To support, inspire and empower our staff and students to take ownership of their health in order to realise positive health outcomes.
The college clinic is a nurse led facility. College nurses promote good health and well being with care and advice for our residential boarders. To find out more about the team and their role in supporting your child, please contact them at collegeclinicdover@uwcsea.edu.sg
Students are not permitted to self-administer or carry medication on campus. This includes the boarding houses and on school trips.
All medication is administered by college nurses from the college clinic. This is to ensure administration is monitored and recorded accurately. It also enables nurses to check that the medication is working and there are no unpleasant side effects that could be avoided.
Possible exceptions to these requirements may be respiratory inhalers or Adrenaline auto-injectors.
Students are supported by college nurses to take their medication as prescribed or recommended, but it is the students responsibility to ensure correct medication adherence.
Students don't need to bring medication from home for "just in case". If you are unwell a college doctor or nurse will assess you and provide the necessary medication.Â
It is the students responsibility to inform nursing staff if they have medication and are going on a school trip. This will ensure it is prepared in time for the teacher to collect and safely administer on the trip.
The college doctors and nurses rely on up-to-date and accurate health information from parents. The on-line medical form is referred to each time a student is seen by a nurse in the college clinic, and helps to ensure appropriate and safe treatment is provided.
For students with chronic and/or acute medical conditions a report from your home specialist or family doctor to confirm the diagnosis and treatment is helpful.
Parents are also encouraged to consider a Singapore based specialist for their child with a chronic medical condition such as Diabetes Mellitus, Epilepsy and mental health conditions.
We understand it can be difficult for parents when their child is unwell or injured and far from home, and so communication with the nursing team is encouraged.
College nurses inform parents by email when their child has been seen by a college doctor or external specialist. You will be informed of the diagnosis and recommended treatment.
If your child is admitted to the college clinic you will receive at least one progress report by email each day, and you will be notified when your child is well enough to return to school.
College staff are guided by advice from the medical team and adhere to the recommendations given.
All UWCSEA parents are requested to ensure their childs online medical form is up-to-date with accurate health and medical information. This should be done annually, prior to a trip and following an illness or injury which may have ongoing implications the college should be aware of.
Parents are encouraged to contact the college nursing team if they have any queries or concerns we can help with.
Doctor Anywhere are the college medical provider and there is a doctors clinic held each weekday morning in the college clinic for boarding students. Students also have access to external clinics for specialist care and investigations such as xrays.
College nurses can assist with alternative arrangements if parents prefer to access other medical providers or seek a second opinion.
The college clinic is a nurse led clinic open 24/7 where students are encouraged to come for advice and management of their health care needs.
Students are required to inform their houseparent or dayparent before coming to the clinic and a permission slip must be given by the dayparent before seeing the doctor. If during school hours, all students are to inform their teacher, except during school break times.
Nurses provide treatment and over-the counter medication for minor ailments and injuries as well as support for managing chronic medical conditions such Diabetes, Asthma and Epilepsy.Â
Nurses refer students to college doctors and external clinics as necessary.
Students who are too unwell to attend school are admitted to the college clinic and assigned a Primary Care Nurse. S/he is responsible for the care of the student which includes ensuring doctors orders are followed, medication is administered and healthy food, fluids and rest are encouraged.
College clinic rules are the same as the College and boarding house. However, medical needs take priority and so if earlier lights out or less technology are recommended, the nurses decision is final. Clinic visiting hours must be adhered to ie. no visiting during lessons or prep, but friends are encouraged to visit unless contraindicated eg contagious conditions or when rest is required. Students may not leave the clinic under any circumstances without informing the nursing team.
