UWCSEA aims to inspire and empower students to discover Basketball as a lifelong passion, supporting the foundations for an active healthy lifestyle, personal development, positive interpersonal relationships and service to others.
The purpose of the Basketball Programme is to:
Provide opportunities that will cater to all ages and abilities;
Develop players physical strength and mastery of basketball to reach their full potential;
Enable opportunities to access appropriate levels of competition;
Build student character and leadership skills;
Instil the importance of teamwork, service and community
The Basketball programme in UWCSEA is comprehensive and caters to all ages and abilities from K1 to G12. The programme offers progression and mastery of the sport that are both achievable through our developmental opportunities for individual and team growth.
Basketball at UWCSEA offers a range of pathways to provide opportunities based on student interest and abilities. Students may choose a development programme which will require a weekly and seasonal commitment. Students who select the competitive programme need to commit to a minimum of twice weekly training across two seasons. Teams will also have opportunities to represent the school in competitions locally and internationally.
Through the Basketball programme students learn and reflect upon the personal skills and qualities of our UWCSEA profile. Players learn the benefits of hard work, how to be resilient and how to best self manage their time. When setting goals and reflecting on development and performance, players are guided to be reflective and self critical and whether confronted by adversity or rewarded with success to remain honest and principled.
Placing great emphasis on teamwork, community engagement, student leadership and service programmes, UWCSEA Basketball aims to provide powerful and meaningful opportunities for our players to unite and serve the College and the wider Singapore community through their sport.
