1. Once you have chosen an Essay Title, you will need to start thinking about the TOK CONCEPTS discussed in your TOK lessons. If you are unsure as what to do, best you revisit the AOK-relevant notes - your own or on Teamie - and revise everything you have learned about 'knowledge' so far. You may find the ‘List of TOK concepts’ handy.
2. You will need to establish what is/are the essay question/s that can be found in the ESSAY TITLE. (Step 1 should help you on the way.) Your main Knowledge Question / THESIS needs to offer an answer to the Essay Title and not omit any part of it.
3. Clearly identified which KNOWLEDGE PROCESSES should be discussed, and think about the significance of our INDIVIDUAL and COMMUNITY Knowledge in these processes.
4. Explore the concepts and KQs in connection to various AOKs that you are interested in or which lend themselves best to be discussed under this essay title. In order to do this properly, look at the separate elements of the AOK FRAMEWORK
5. Ask yourself a question: What are the various PERSPECTIVES one should consider?
6. Once you've completed your research, organise your thoughts, establish your Thesis/Knowledge Claim (answer to the main KQ/Essay Title) and develop an Argument (what are your CLAIMS and COUNTERCLAIMS?). Make sure you stay away from BLACK and WHITE thinking, and use TENTATIVE LANGUAGE.
7. Begin the search for fitting EXAMPLES - starting with the personal ones, but also including second-hand examples with notes on their sources. Remember that this examples should be ACADEMIC EXAMPLES from the AOKs, not personal anecdotes
8. The PARAGRAPH structure needs to be clear, and your text should be of analytical (and not descriptive) nature.

TOK ANALYSIS (2nd order) are the most important parts of your essay as this is where you should display your understanding of the structure/system of knowledge . You need to focus on TOK Concepts and you are expected to use TOK terminology as well as language of the discussed AOK. Do not forget to use tentative language and support your thinking by work/s of academics, as this will add credibility to your work.
9. Writing a good CONCLUSION is crucial to the value of your essay. Think of possible IMPLICATIONS and the SIGNIFICANCE of your analysis and overall evaluation whilst planning; make notes. Include a statement that demonstrates the global engagement with TOK & evaluate the ethics of actions.
