All Middle School Drama courses are based around the devising process of generating, developing and refining. The units aim to expose students to many forms of stimuli and encourage them to explore a range of theatrical and dramatic conventions to heighten their development as devisers and performers. All students are encouraged to work collaboratively and meaningfully with others to respond to and evaluate their own work. The skills that form the basis of this course are refined and developed in High School Drama and Theatre courses.
At two points in the semester students demonstrate their ability to select, apply and combine the skills taught throughout the course in an extended process involving the creation of a collaborative devised performance. Students reflect individually on their contribution to the creating process and performance as part of this process
Students evaluate their own work and the work of their peers as part of the extended process in the ensemble performance tasks. Students will be asked to identify strengths and suggest ideas for refining, giving students an opportunity to demonstrate the depth of their understanding.
Across all courses at Middle School students will be immersed in:
creative process - generating, developing, refining
presenting skills
ensemble/collaborative skills
response to stimulus (text, visual, cultural, thematic, audio, etc.)
