Art

The purpose of the Grade 4 Art programme is to allow students to access a variety of styles and to enjoy the process of making art. Art making is about communication and finding the confidence to express yourself through a form that is right for you.

Students are taught by Ms Johns or Ms Sebunya. The curriculum is based on the elements of principles of art and design, building on skills each year. The Art programme covers all the main elements of art from painting to 3D work, while also encouraging students to explore the world of art through direct observation, the use of imagination, the work of artists and styles in the past and the present and the local area.

Students are expected to:

• confidently choose tools and materials that are appropriate for a task
• work co-operatively in a group as well as valuing time spent working alone
• become confident mark makers
• enjoy the art making process and be keen to experiment with materials
• talk about artists and processes they have been introduced to during the year
• use specific art vocabulary when discussing artworks
• take time to reflect on their work
