Suffolk New College boasts its own on-site sports facilities with our very own sports centre. This comprises of a 4-court badminton sports hall, 2 activity rooms, including a dance studio for our students to access with little or no cost.
We also have 5-a-side football pitches and two 7-a-side pitches for students' to use.
College students have full usage during the day and can access the sports hall, table-tennis rooms, and football pitches.
Sports centre staff work to create a student environment with no barriers to taking part in activities whilst studying at the college.
We run the following opportunities for all students to access:
Students Sports card: Suffolk New College offers a sports card for just £5 per academic year. This card gives FREE access to all our sports facilities for the academic year, up to the end of July. The card allows you to access the facilities at no extra cost as well as the option to pre-book most activities including the football pitches, badminton courts, table-tennis rooms, basketball court, and the dance studio. The football pitches are handed over to Goals, after 5pm, during term time. Use of the pitches at this time is not included in your membership as well as the school holidays. Weekend access is allowed but you MUST pre book the pitch with the sports centre staff, otherwise you will have to pay an entry fee to Goals soccer centre. Visit the Sports Centre to purchase this card at the front reception.
Casual Sports: Lunchtime activities in the sports hall include anything from basketball, dodgeball and table-tennis in the upstairs rooms or the football on the outside pitches. Just ask the staff for more information as this is also a teaching area so access will be restricted at certain times.
Competitive Sports: The college play in the Association of Colleges (AoC) leagues and tournaments including football, futsal basketball, rugby 7's, badminton and netball. We also participate in individual competitions such as squash, running, sailing, tennis, table-tennis, golf, fitness trainer competition, Volleyball and athletics. Speak to a member of the sports team if you are interested in any of these activities. The football studies course has a team in the colleges league, more information on this can be found on the college website.
