LEARNING TO CODE WITH MINECRAFT

Grades:  6-12

Teacher:  Mr. Diestelhorst

Course Description:  Whether you are a Minecraft megafan or a newbie, you will see Minecraft in a whole new light while learning the basics of programming.  Begin with some short, simple Python lessons and then use your new skills to modify Minecraft to produce instant and totally awesome results.  Learn how to customize Minecraft to make mini-games, duplicate entire buildings, and turn boring blocks into gold.


DRIVER'S ED

Grades:  9-10 (students born before 6-1-2010 should sign up for classroom this summer)

Teacher:  Crabman's Driver Education, LLC

Course Description:  Basic principles of driving and traffic safety.


STRENGTH AND SPEED (HEART OF A CHAMPION)

Grades:  8-12

Times:  6 A.M. - 8 A.M.

Teachers:  Mr. Streit and Mr. Lukasko

Course Description: This course is designed to provide students with the opportunity to improve their physical fitness through strength and speed training, while also developing essential leadership skills.  Students will engage in a variety of workouts and training techniques to enhance their strength, speed, agility, and endurance.  Additionally, students will participate in leadership education activities to cultivate skills such as communication, teamwork, decision-making, and goal-setting.  Through group projects, discussions, and real-world applications, students will have the chance to develop their leadership potential both on and off the field.  Students will see improvements in their physical fitness levels, while also feeling empowered to become well-rounded individuals who are capable of leading by example and making positive contributions to their communities. 


LIFETIME FITNESS

Grades:  8-12

Course Description:  This course is designed to empower students with the knowledge and skills necessary to lead a healthy and active lifestyle throughout their lives.  Students will explore various aspects of fitness, including weight training, principles of training, nutrition, mental wellness, and overall well-being.  Students will engage in a combination of classroom learning, hands-on activities, and physical exercise to develop a holistic understanding of what it means to be physically and mentally fit.  Topics covered will include goal setting, exercise routines, healthy eating habits, stress management techniques, and the importance of regular physical activity.

Course Description:  Learn to play as a team esports like Rocket League and League of Legends.

 ADVANCED PHYSICAL SKILLS - June 3-14 and July 22-August 2 from 7:30-9:30 A.M

Location:  Wellness Center

Course Description:  The advanced physical skills course is designed for individuals who have prior experience in strength and conditioning training principles and are looking to take their fitness to the next level.  Participants will continue to build upon their weightlifting and speed training techniques.  The course will also cover topics such as periodization, advanced individual training methodologies, and injury prevention strategies to help participants optimize their strength and muscle gains.  Through structured workouts, participants will enhance their overall strength, power, and muscle mass.


HUNTER'S SAFETY - June 17-20 from 4:00-8:00 (DNR requires a $10 registration fee)

Grades:  Ages 11 and older

Teacher:  Mr. Koenig and Mr. Niemann

Course Description:  Earn your hunter safety certificate.  You must attend all sessions to meet the required hours.


FRESHMAN ORIENTATION - August 22 from 8:00-3:00

Grades:  9

Teacher:  High School Staff

Course Description:  Freshman orientation is a great opportunity for our incoming 9th graders to learn about their high school experience in a fun environment.  Upperclassmen will be present to listen and answer questions.  They will also play some fun games to assist in your comfort level.  Teaching staff will be present to talk about courses and to help you get organized for your high school experience.  All freshman students should sign up for this tremendous opportunity to start your high school career on a positive note!


CHESS CLUB - FRIDAYS ONLY 8:00-10:00 or 10:00-12:00

Grades:  3-12

Teacher:  Mr. Hanson

Course Description:  Students will learn the set up of the board and the basics of the game.  Students will learn different moves and strategies in the game of chess.  Students will solve chess puzzles and engage in discussion about different situations on the board.  Students will compete against each other.  It is my hope to form a Chess Team/Chess Club in the fall.


MARCHING BAND - June 11 and 13 from 6:00-7:30, June 16th 11:00-2:00, July 4 6:00 am-6:00 pm

Grades:  8-12

Course Description:  Students will participate in two rehearsals and learn marching techniques. The class will then march in the Edgar Parade on June 16 and the Northwoods 4th of July parades. 


PREP FOR SUCCESS - July 10, 11, 17 and 18 from 12:00-3:00

Grades:  10-12

Teacher:  Mrs. Higgins

Course Description:  You, too, can earn thousands of dollars for your college education.  How?  By being prepared with your scholarship content and essays!  Sign up for this course to learn what it takes to submit a winning scholarship application, and when to do so.  HINT:  it's sooner than you think!  You don't need to be a senior.  If you'd like help with your college application essay, need a letter of recommendation, or are looking for ACT preparation materials, this is the course for you.  Topics covered are the different types of scholarships, where to find them, scholarship tracking, essay writing and feedback, letters of recommendation, and ACT test prep practice only for those interested.
