Resources for 3MT Preparation

• What is the language of NTHU 3MT?

The official language used at NTHU 3MT is ENGLISH. 

• Is the presentation length exactly 3 minutes?

The length of 3MT presentation cannot exceed 3 minutes (180 seconds). It can be 2:50 but not 3:10. The time is closer to 3 minutes the better.

• Can I use either English or Chinese in the presentation?
  The language of 3MT is English. Both your oral delivery and slide should be in English.

• Is the recording due the May 15th to choose who goes to the Finalist Position? How many people will be chosen to compete in the Final competition?
  Yes. the finalists will be selected based on the video submission and announced here on the website.

• Who and how decide the 12 finalists?

A selection panel of university faculty from different disciplines will evaluate the video submission and make decisions. Those videos not follow the requirements (showing your faces, using only one static slide) will be disqualified.

• Is PowerPoint allowed to be used?
  One (1) static slide is allowed to use in presentation. No animation or sound is allowed. Once selected as the finalists, you are allowed to adjust and revise your slide for the final event.

• Can American nationals participate in the 3MT competition?
  Yes, there are no nationality restrictions for participation in the competition.

• Video specifications

The video upload limit is 100MB, and must be in MP4 format with a maximum length of 3 minutes. 

The video needs to include a view of the presenter's face and ideally the upper body so to demonstrate non-verbal delivery (eye contact, facial expression, hand gesture …). 

The content of the video must comply with the competition rules and cannot contain any infringing, indecent, or inappropriate material. Any violation of the rules may result in disqualification or revocation of the award by the organizers.
