Teachers selected to participate will receive a $1,300 stipend to help defray transportation, meals and lodging costs at the end of the workshop session. Stipends are taxable. The Democratization of the Automobile Industry workshop participants are required to attend all scheduled meetings and to engage fully as professionals in keeping with the NEH Principles of Civility in all project activities. Stipends will be mailed at the end of the Ball State University semester after their work is submitted. Participants who do not complete the full tenure of the project will receive a reduced stipend.
Project applicants who accept an offer to attend are expected to remain during the entire period of the program and to participate in its work on a full-time basis. If a participant arrives after the beginning of the program or departs before the end of the program due to special circumstances, it shall be the recipient institution's responsibility to see that only a pro rata share of the stipend is received or the appropriate pro rata share of the stipend is returned if the participant has already received the full stipend.
During and at the end of the workshop, participants will be asked to provide an assessment of their workshop experience, especially in terms of its value to their personal and professional development. Core questions are included in the Terms and Conditions; however, there may be additional questions. These confidential online evaluations will become a part of the project’s grant file. Completion of the evaluation is a requirement of the stipend. “the stipend will be mailed at the end of the BSU semester.
Three hours of Ball State University graduate credit are available to teachers. Participants desiring credit need to go to BSU website's Apply to a Graduate Program | Ball State University , register as a non-degree seeking student, and fill out the application form, including sending BSU a transcript showing a bachelor’s degree. BSU has agreed to waive the application fee via request on the Application Fee page of your graduate school application. To request a fee waiver, select the I have received prior approval option and list “NEH Grant” in the fee waiver provided by Ronald V. Morris, History Department, textbox. The course is by permission, so please email Ronald V. Morris that you have applied for graduate credit. Send the tuition fee to BSU. Grades will be posted after completion of the workshop, the grading of the materials, and the end of the semester.
