Dear Parents,
As October begins, we all look forward to the change in the weather. The long months of summer heat pass and we think to outdoor activities that we can enjoy once more. As a parent and educator, I look forward to this change and the opportunities it creates for children to play more outdoors.
This valuable time spent being active outside is very valuable for two reasons:
Though the temperatures are beginning to drop, it is still hot outside. This can be especially tough on active and small children, who can quickly overheat. To help your children receive maximum benefits from outdoor play, please help them in ensuring that they bring a hat and water bottle with the to school each day.
I am outside monitoring the playground as often as I can and I can clearly see the joy our children have in actively playing outside. I am looking forward to these opportunities growing as the cooler temperatures become more frequent.
All the best,
John O’Neill

CONGRATULATIONS to Roudha Al Naqbi, Grade 5C, for being one of the finalists of Mawhibaty, a Talent Development Program in Arts, by ADEK!
The program aims to identify the talented students in visual and performing arts, and to improve and develop their capabilities and art skills to enable them to represent the United Arab Emirate in local and international events.
In our UOI the students are learning about self-awareness and how mindful methods can impact us.
The students have really enjoyed learning about the different types of mindfulness exercises and they conducted some research into 4 of their favorite ones.
The first method is ‘Mindful Counting’.
The purpose of this is to help us if we are feeling upset or frustrated.
To try this, you need to:
You can watch this video of the students modeling Mindful Counting.
The second method is the ‘Breathing Star’.
The purpose of this method is to teach us to control our breathing pattern. This helps us to focus on inhalation and exhalation and slows our heart rate. By doing this, we can be more mindful.
To try this, you need to:
You can watch this video of the students modeling the Breathing Star.
The next method researched was ‘Mindful Imagining’.
This method helps us relieve stress, and keeps us creative while visiting our happy place.
To try this, you need to:
You can watch this video of the students modeling Mindful Imagining
The final method students looked at was ‘Mindful Listening’.
This method helps us relax and be in the present moment. It aids us in letting go of distractions and trains us to focus.
To try this, you need to:
You can watch this video of the students modeling Mindful Listening.
The students have done a wonderful job modeling these for their peers and have offered to help other classes at GAA to use these methods.
5A has also helped to create a Mindful coloring display on the 1st floor where students can practice being present in the moment while they focus on this coloring task. Come by and see our display board and take some time out to color.
Try one out for yourself at home and with your kids!
We would like to remind all cast members that rehearsals are every Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 3:00pm to 4:30pm in Room 165.
Kind regards,
Ms. Caitlin and Ms. Pugh
