In Performing Arts we are learning about Drama! We are focusing on the communication and social skills we need to be our best performers. We learned about working in partners, teams, beat, rhythm, energy, character, setting, and action using emotion and voice. We now have put all of this together and are now responding and creating to familiar stories through writing, creating props, putting on puppet shows, or building sets with blocks for our performances.
In KG1 we have been working on matching, sorting, counting 1-10, and subitizing 1-6 in Math. We have been playing lots of different games and practising taking turns. In Literacy we have been doing name study every day and learning about the letters and sounds in our friends names. We are also taking part in shared reading and have been doing loads of activities to help us with the tricky words. This week we ended our Unit of Inquiry of ‘Who We Are’. We now know what we look like, what we like to do, and how we are all similar but different. Last week was flag day which gave the children the opportunity to dress up in the colors of the UAE flag and show us how proud they are of where they live.
We are using our superhero pointer power while buddy reading. We are practicing our letter recognition using alphabet stamps. We are inquiring about plants and insects.
KG1 C enjoyed their first Unit of Inquiry tremendously. Throughout the unit, each student inquired into who they are, their abilities and interests, and how they are alike and different. Students showed their knowledge and understanding through a variety of ways. Each student created a visual representation of what they look like and used it to demonstrate their interests, similarities, and differences. They had fun using their 5 senses during experiments, tasting interesting foods, smelling and listening out for different sounds. They also got really good at drawing themselves and their friends. During this time the children began their first school swimming lessons. Over the weeks, it has been so wonderful to see their confidence grow in the swimming pool. The children enjoyed Kindness day and were great risk takers when they took part in their first Community Share. Our new Unit of Inquiry has begun and we head towards our winter break after celebrating a wonderful National Day. KG1 C has become a little team and enjoy working with each other each day and learning new things.
