Reading at home can be a tricky area, especially as students move up in the grades and read more challenging books.
I would like to share three top tips that we keep in mind when thinking about reading growth in our students.
We have a quote in the book room of our Elementary that always sticks with me. If we keep this close to our hearts, I know we will foster a generation of strong readers:
‘Reading should be not presented to a child as a chore, a duty. It should be offered as a gift’ - Kate di Camillo
Have a good week,

Grade 3 students are entering the wonderful world of performance with their upcoming musical adaptation of “Where the Wild things are”. Their current unit is ‘How we express ourselves’ and we are focusing on engaging an audience through acting, singing, dancing, movement, playing instruments and costumes! The performance will be November 21st 9:00am in the auditorium. Parents are welcome.
In first grade, we are in our second unit Sharing the Planet. Our central idea is “Where and how people live is influenced by their environment.” Students are exploring different types of homes around the world. They will be inquiring into how the climates of an area affect the materials and shape of that home.
This learning extends into other parts of our day. In Makerspace, students are constructing homes using LEGOS. The students will test to see if their homes are sturdy enough to withstand an earthquake. Our first graders love a good challenge! In Kitchen, we are learning about what dishes people eat around the world. Students will see how the climate can impact what and how people eat. We will be cooking up pasta, chapati, couscous, and much more!
Working on the vision of Arabic department “Each Student has the right to learn and improve within his abilities through new and interesting strategies that activate his role and develop his language and life skills”.
The elementary Arabic department worked hard to use modern strategies and techniques to improve the Arabic language for our students, and to build bridges between the curriculum in the classroom and their social life which will motivate them to learn the Arabic language and use it in their day-to-day life.
Here are some pictures from grades 3, 4 and 5.
