Visitor Management

We welcome visitors and encourage all parents to be an active part of their child's educational experience.

Keeping students safe is a top priority for the Excelsior Springs School District. The district uses the Raptor visitor management system at each of our schools to enhance students and staff's safety and security by prohibiting school access to those who pose a potential threat. The procedure enables each school building to screen all visitors against sexual offender registries in all 50 states and establish a consistent sign-in process across the district.

What can i expect when i arrive to school for a visit?

The visitor identification system enhances safety by reading visitor driver’s licenses and then quickly printing a visitor badge that can include the name of the visitor, time, date, destination, and purpose of visit. Identification includes all state-issued IDs, driver’s licenses, military IDs, a social security card, a green card, or some other form of government-issued identification that has name and date of birth.

Raptor scans your name, date of birth, and a photo for comparison with a national database of registered sex offenders, but it does not check criminal or traffic history. Raptor will also check our Student Information System to make sure you are permitted to check out a student. School staff members might also place notifications on your accounts to help keep your contact information current. An example might be a request to update your primary phone number if one is no longer working.

What forms of ID will the System accept?

Raptor accepts any stat-issued ID, including state-issued driver's licenses, sate ID cards concealed handgun licenses, military IDs, government, ID, Canadian driver's licenses, Mexican driver's license and alien registration cards.

What if I do not have a valid or I ID or Don't want it Scanned?

There is still a way for you to access to our schools and check out your student. You need to speak directly with an  staff member who will ask you for your legal name, date of birth, relationship to the student and reason for visiting.  Office staff will manually confirm your identification, run a background check and confirm you are listed as a person who can check out the student. This may take a few minutes longer than the ID scan to complete

What Type of Background Check is ran?

Raptor compares your name, date of birth and photo with a national database of registered sex offenders, It does not check criminal or traffic history. Raptor also checks the Excelsior Spring's student information system to ensure you are permitted to check out the student.

What if I have an outstanding warrant or I am Undocumented?

Raptor does not know if you have an outstanding warrant, a DUI, parking tickets or are undocumented. The National Sex Offender Public Registry and Excelsior Spring's student information system are the only databases Raptor checks.

What happens when I visit if i am a registered sex offend?

Upon scanning your ID, a silent alert goes to the administrative staff member so they can meet with you privately.

Missouri Statute 566.149.1 requires any parent, legal guardian or custodian who is a registered sex offender to request permission to be present on a school campus from the superintendent. If permission is granted, the superintendent or designee must inform the principal of the school where the sex offender will be present. Permission must be granted for each specific event the offender wishes to attend.

If you have permission for your visit, you will be allowed, with supervision, to continue into the building to contact your child. This supervision will ensure your rights are protected in a controlled environment.
