Alliance of Therapy Dogs
Alliance of Therapy Dogs is an international registry of certified therapy dog teams. At ATD, they provide testing, certification, registration, support, and insurance for members who volunteer with their dogs in animal-assisted activities. ATD's objective is to form a network of caring individuals and their special dogs who are willing to share smiles and joy with people, young and old alike.
Testing Process:
ATD's testing is designed to make sure the dog and handler have a good relationship with each other and that the dog has the right temperament for therapy dog work. A Tester/Observer (T/O) will monitor the handler and dog during three visits. These visits are to facilities that include two visits to a medical facility. During these supervised visits, the T/O will instruct the dog and handler on the art of visiting and give the handler advice and guidance while observing the handler in action. If all goes well, the T/O will pass the dog and the handler and recommend them for dog certification with ATD.
