Amedeo R. Odoni is the T. Wilson Chair Professor Emeritus of Aeronautics and Astronautics and of Civil and Environmental Engineering at MIT. His interests are in operations research, with applications in transportation, air traffic control, airport planning and design, and urban service systems – areas in which he has supervised more than 40 PhD dissertations. From 1996 to 2002, he served as Co-Director of the FAA’s National Center of Excellence in Aviation Operations Research (NEXTOR). He has also held several other leadership positions at MIT and elsewhere, including Co-Director of the MIT Operations Research Center and Editor-in-Chief of Transportation Science. He is the author, co-author or editor of nine books, including three internationally best-selling textbooks, and more than 100 professional publications; has consulted for national and international civil aviation authorities and at numerous international airports, including Amsterdam, Athens, Boston, Delhi, Milan, Munich, New York, Singapore, Stockholm, and Sydney; and is an Elected Member of the US National Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of INFORMS and the recipient of many awards for research contributions and teaching excellence.
