Alexandre Jacquillat is an Assistant Professor of Operations Research and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University's Heinz College. He holds a PhD in Engineering Systems from MIT, a MSc in Technology and Policy from MIT, and a MSc in Applied Mathematics from the École Polytechnique (Paris). His research applies stochastic models and optimization methods to promote more efficient, more reliable and more sustainable transportation systems. His primary focus lies in the problems of capacity planning, capacity allocation and capacity utilization in the air transportation industry. His work develops decision analytics to mitigate airport congestion through operating enhancements and the design of flight scheduling mechanisms. He is also interested in supporting the deployment of new forms of urban mobility, such as on-demand car-sharing and bike-sharing systems, electrified vehicles and connected vehicles. In addition to his research, Alexandre worked with McKinsey & Co. and Booz Allen Hamilton to advise leading companies and governmental organizations in the fields of transportation, energy, logistics and organization.

António Pais Antunes is a Professor at the University of Coimbra, in Portugal. He holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering from the University of Coimbra and a PhD in Applied Sciences from the Catholic University of Louvain, in Belgium. He has been the Director of Planning of the Centro Region Development Agency in Portugal (1983-85), a Visiting Fellow at Princeton University (1997/98), an Invited Professor at EPF Lausanne (2009/10), and a Visiting Professor at MIT (2013/14). His teaching and research focus on Spatial Planning and Transport Engineering. The specific subjects he pursued during his career include public facility location, land-use planning, road network design and conservation, urban transport planning (vehicle sharing, electric mobility, public transport) and, since 2006, air transport planning. This activity has been carried out in the framework of 26 research projects and actions and through the supervision of 24 PhD students. He currently acts as Deputy Director of CITTA – Research Centre for Territory Transports and Environment (an R&D unit of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology), as Coordinator of the Doctoral Programs in Spatial Planning and in Transportation Systems at the University of Coimbra, and as a member of the Operating Committee of the MIT Portugal Program.

José Fernando Oliveira is Full Professor and Vice-Head of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto. He also teaches at Porto Business School. He is a senior researcher in the Industrial Engineering and Management Center of the research institute INESC TEC.

Maria Antónia Carravilla has been responsible for several R&D contracts with industry, services and public administration. These contracts resulted in reports and decision support systems that proved to be very useful tools for these organizations, leading to long-lasting collaborations with FEUP. The pure research contracts were mainly founded by FCT and are mainly related with the application of constraint programming to the resolution of nesting problems. The R&D contracts and the research contracts were the basis for the theses of several PhD students.

Within the management office of FEUP she led studies related with indicators for higher education institutions and supervised a masters thesis on sustainability indicators for higher education institutions.
