António Pais Antunes, PI of the ASAP project, was in Madrid for a "meeting before the kickoff meeting" with IATA - Lara Maugham, Head Worldwide Airport Slots, James Wiltshire and Philip Ireland. It was a long and productive meeting, where the objectives of both the ASAP meeting and of the kickoff meeting were clarified, and collaboration prospects were examined. Thank you, Lara, for being open to this collaboration!

Nuno Ribeiro, the PhD student member of the ASAP project team, is one of the two finalists of this year's Anna Valicek Award. This prestigious award, sponsored by AGIFORS, is given to a graduate student in recognition of "original and innovative research in the application of operations research to airline and/or airline related business problems" (https://agifors.org/Anna-Valicek-Award). Regardless of the final result, this is a great achievement.

Good progress has been made with respect to the kickoff meeting: we have the dates (18-19 October) and the venue (Hotel Altis Grand, Lisbon), and we are already certain of having a great participants' list combining industry experts and top academic researchers.

Though ASAP has been approved only recently, the project team has been working on the subject for some time (while we were waiting for the Portugal 2020 decision). We were just informed that the first ASAP related paper ("An optimization approach for airport slot allocation under IATA guidelines") has been accepted for publication in Transportation Research Part B. This is not a small achievement...

After a long wait, we were finally notified of Portugal 2020's decision about ASAP: it was approved! But it will take some time before it can start.
