1. Download the Slack desktop and mobile apps, but don’t open them yet.
You can access Slack via your browser, but for the best communication you will want to download the native apps to your desktop and/or mobile device. It’s the best way to make sure you get all your notifications.
2. Visit ucla-studentaffairs.slack.com in your mobile or desktop browser.
You’ll need to sign in with your UCLA Login ID, which starts the Duo Multi-Factor Authentication process that should hopefully look very familiar to you!
Once you’ve logged in on your browser, you should automatically be redirected to the Slack apps you’ve downloaded to your desktop or mobile device.
3. Change your full name and display name in your profile.
When you login to ucla.slack.com for the first time, your “Full name” and “Display name” are the same as your UCLA Login ID. Changing this to something more recognizably “you” will help colleagues contact you.
Read this help article on how to change your Full name and Display name in your profile.
4. Find and join the channel #rl-general
This channel is the main hub for Res Life department Slack messages. Channels for various groups and committees--including most activity for our Residential Education teams--also reside in the UCLA Community Slack Workspace (slack.ucla.com) so you'll probably want to join there too!
