Join AMIA, ARSC, and the IS Library on May 23rd for a celebration of Palestinian Audiovisual Heritage in the Library and Media Preservation Lab. Part installation, part film screening, the event will focus on analog and digital representations of Palestinian film and sound and contend with the archival manifestations of Palestinian culture. Starting at 1pm, we will set up in the IS Library with individual viewing and listening stations for folks to take in a variety of media. At 5pm, we will have a reception in the Library, followed by a 6pm screening of Leila and the Wolves in the Media Lab. We will have food and drinks (to be enjoyed outside the media lab), resources to share, conversations to have, and solidarity with Palestine. We hope you will join us!

This presentation by Dr. Josh Shepperd examines recent movements in media archives and representational visibility advocacy. Media archival research is subject to social pressures that have historically limited diversity and access. However, when historians and archivists take a coalitional approach to preservation and access, the media archive is capable of revivifying, recirculating, and re-presencing a standing reserve of voices that hold the potential to play a role in political mobilization. This talk discusses case studies in radio and television collection stewardship and curation, and how research and preservation are being influenced by emerging pressures in AI policy and Copyright across federal and regulatory discourses.
Find out more and RSVP here. For questions or more information, please contact Dr. Noopur Raval, SEIS (raval [at] seis dot ucla dot edu)
