Instructions and Information for Graduate Student Forms and Actions - Online Tool

Available here. This online form/tool allows students to select specific actions and pull the relevant instructions and information to make identifying information faster and easier. Selectable actions range from forming committees, receiving approval to continue the PhD requirements (begin qualifying exams), going on in absentia status, and filing the dissertation. The info is based on info in the handbook(s), Anthro Student Resources site, and other university sources. Please continue referencing information from the Handbook, Anthro Student Resources site, and relevant forms when planning your timeline. The specific deadlines for department form submission will be updated every year as they are based on the department meeting schedule.

Anthro Grad Student Deadlines & Events Calendar

Available here. This calendar includes deadlines for paperwork submission, fellowship and employment opportunities, featured events from the Weekly Announcements, and key dates from the term calendar. If you use a Google account, including your @g.ucla.edu address, you can copy entries to your own Google calendar. Certain entries will be preceded with bracketed text to make it a little easier to identify funding and job opportunities, types of workshops, and Department deadlines. The calendar will be updated as notification emails and Weekly Announcements are released, but things may lag behind by 24-48 hours.

Slack Workspace - Anthro Grad Advising

This workspace allows you to receive quick responses to general/broad questions. For example:

Sign up to this Slack workspace is completely voluntary. Desktop and mobile apps are available. Please see instructions on how to join and getting started. The workspace also serves as another line of communication amongst students, as joining the workspace will allow you to send direct messages and create private channels. You are welcome to use this workspace to collaborate with each other, not just for asking questions to the Graduate Advisor. Private channels can only be accessed by people specifically invited to the channel (meaning the Graduate Advisor cannot see them unless added), and will only show up in the channel directory for people who are already in it. Feel free to create private channels for collaboration or random chats.

Weekly Announcements

To help minimize the volume of emails received, Weekly Announcements from the Graduate Advisor are sent every Monday during the 10 weeks of each academic quarter to the Anthro grad student listserv. The Weekly Announcements are digest-style email which includes important announcements, deadlines, upcoming events/trainings/workshops, and funding and employment opportunities.
