All the courses expected to be offered this semester are listed on the provisional Schedule of Classes. Syracuse University reserves the right to cancel a course with low enrollment or to change the course format to an independent study.
Where there is greater demand than space available in a course, preference for enrollment is given to majors, then minors or others who can demonstrate academic need (i.e., the course fulfills a specific requirement that cannot be met by another course) and who have listed the course among their Primary Course Selections on the SAF.
Be sure you have met all prerequisites for courses you plan to take. Prerequisites are indicated in course descriptions, with equivalent courses described for visiting students. If you do not meet the prerequisite, you should not include the course on your SAF.
Some courses carry course fees for study tours, site visits, and activities that are an integral part of the course. Confirmed course fees for Spring 2024 are also listed in each course listing that has a course fee.
If you register for any course with a mandatory study tour, you must participate in this field study. Do not plan personal travel until you get to Strasbourg and know when you may be required to take part in any class-related study tours, all-program trips, make-up classes, exam periods, and other academic commitments.
COURSE NOTES
French Cinema vs. Hollywood (LIT 301 when taught in English in fall semesters) is offered in French as FRE 300.1 in spring semesters. You may plan to take this course if you meet the prerequisite of FRE 202 or a proficiency level equivalent to four semesters of college-level French.
If you would like to take a film course but do not have this level of French, consider:
COM 350 - Media, Diversity and Inclusion: Diversity in European Films.
HOA 300.1 French Impressionism and Surrealism is the art history course offered this semester. It is taught in English and replaces FRE 439/HOA 365.
FRE 439/HOA 365 as noted above.
Any change to current course status will be included in communications leading up to registration.
IMPORTANT: You must remain in good academic standing to participate in our program. If you are placed on academic probation prior to departure, you will be withdrawn from the program. You should carefully review other academic policies applicable to all Syracuse Abroad programs.
At Syracuse University, all work for registered classes must be completed on or before the degree certification date. If you are graduating, you should seek advice from your home college regarding your degree certification date, and also be certain that you are aware of any remaining degree requirements.
Information on enrollment policies, grades, SU library resources, registration, internships and independent research can be found on the Preparing To Go website. Visiting students should also save this page for information on transfer credit and requesting an SU transcript following their studies abroad.
If you need to take an SU main campus or College of Professional Studies online course during a semester abroad, first review Syracuse Abroad-specific requirements and advice.
Arrangements to do coursework on an independent research basis, if needed to satisfy a degree requirement, must be made in advance. Due date for proposals is November 15.
You should regularly check your syr.edu email for messages from Syracuse Abroad.
