Below is a list of the most Frequently Asked Questions about the registration process.
REGISTER May 27-30
These FAQs are to be used in conjunction with information in STEPS ONE, TWO, THREE (including Troubleshooting)and FOUR. They should not be considered a shortcut or a resource to be used instead of thoroughly reviewing all information on this site. Students who carefully prepare for registration by reading through all STEPS, using the Shopping Cart in advance, and registering as soon as their appointment allows will have the best chance of getting into their preferred courses.

** Chrome is the only officially supported browser on Android devices; many android devices come with an alternate "android web browser" that can be branded by the vendor, often the icon is simply "internet". These browsers, and any browser other than Chrome, are specifically not supported. Download Google Chrome from the Google Play Store and replace the default browser.
You will find your individual registration start time in OrangeAbroad > Registration Appointment and Instructions.
You can also find appointments in MySlice > Enrollment Dates. Strasbourg appointments are on the Flex Long Classes line.
All Strasbourg students’ online registration appointments expire at 3:00 pm Eastern US time on Friday, May 30.
You should get online to register as soon as possible once your appointment starts. This will give you the best chance of getting your preferred course schedule. If you do not register during the online registration period May 27-30, our office will assist you with registering administratively for the minimum 12-credits required to study abroad from courses still available at that time.
Sign in to OrangeAbroad. Your SUID number is located under Applicant Home > Profile Tab (left side).
If you cannot locate it, contact your International Program Advisor at syrstrasbourg@syr.edu. You will need to provide some personal identification information (name, birthdate, SSN) in order for us to release this number to you.
Follow the instructions at the NetID Self-Service portal.
Go to the NetID Self-Service portal.
If you've received email to your SU email account (it's definitely been sent!), your NetID is what precedes @syr.edu in your email address.
Our office cannot remove holds. You must resolve the hold with the office that has placed the hold. In MySlice > Student Home > Holds, click on the link of the hold to find contact info.
Review Shopping Cart in STEP TWO: Get Ready
You received an email with your responses quite immediately after submitting the Course Preference Form. Not in your SU email inbox? Did you submit your form with a different email account?
Yes, as long as you are eligible for it (for example, meet any prerequisite). Syracuse Abroad recommends you discuss any changes to your academic plan with your academic advisor(s) if you have questions for how a course will count toward your degree progress. If you plan to take an online class through main campus or College of Professional Studies, you must wait for that registration appointment to be available and our office must be aware that you are planning to participate in a course not offered abroad. Any registration that does not follow this process may be administratively dropped.
Yes, for all of our Center offerings. If you are also taking classes at a local university, the Strasbourg Academic Office will help ensure that your final schedule builds in enough time to get to/from all your classes.
You cannot register for classes when there is a time conflict. You need to be available for the entire meeting time of each class. Select the course you most want to take.
As soon as your appointment allows! The earlier you get online to register, the better your chances of getting into your first-choice courses.
Appointments for SU Strasbourg students start at noon Eastern time on Tuesday, May 27.
Find your individual registration start time in OrangeAbroad > Registration Appointment and Instructions.
You can also find appointments in MySlice > Enrollment Dates. Strasbourg appointments are on the Flex Long line.
Log in to MySlice > Enrollment > Enroll/Drop/Adjust Classes. You can find detailed instructions on how to register in STEP THREE: Register!
Do not SEARCH for classes! Do not use Schedule Builder! These are by far the most common errors made during online registration for Syracuse Abroad classes!
Instead, enter the five-digit class number associated with each class (see next question).
You can find the five-digit class numbers in the first column of the updated Schedule of Classes.
Our office will administratively add the required CAS 200 course.
Internship courses are not registered online since placements cannot be confirmed until after students arrive abroad.
Local university courses are registered once students are abroad.
For the Fall semester, Engineering Program students are administratively registered for some or all of their courses.
All Strasbourg students must register for at least 12 credits to meet the minimum required by the program and France immigration.
During online registration, the system will prevent you from registering for more than 17 credits unless you requested to take additional credits. Please contact cjenn101@syr.edu if you need to register for more than 17 credits asap. Requests made during online registration will not be immediately available.
Please note that if you intend to register for any credit amount over 19, those credits count toward your total semester credits and are subject to additional per-credit tuition charges. For detailed information, see the latest Tuition, Fees, and Related Policies Bulletin.
On occasion, a course may be cancelled due to insufficient demand. Cancelled courses are listed in STEP ONE: Review Updates.
Check the Schedule of Classes. If the class number is highlighted in grey, this is a cross-listed course, and the course is registered under another prefix (it IS the same class!). A single class number for all prefixes provides the maximum number of available seats for the class. You will be able to correct your registration once you get to Strasbourg so that it reflects the subject prefix you want or need.
Some classes have seats reserved for specific populations. If this is the case, although you will see that the class is open, seats are available only to specific populations.
If you don’t meet the criteria for enrollment (based on pre-reqs or language placement), MySlice will indicate to you that the class is full.
Select an alternative course. Continue to attempt to register for the course through the registration appointment.
If you are closed out of a course that you need following the close of online registration, review STEP FOUR.
Review the information in STEP TWO, under sub-heading: Check Prerequisites for the process you should follow.
If you can’t register for a course that is currently in your Shopping Cart, first try removing it from your cart and then re-add it. If you continue to have problems, review Troubleshooting and this video on Common Enrollment Error Messages. If this doesn’t address your problem, email Christi Jennings with the error message you receive (a screenshot is always helpful!).
Do NOT email the professor of the class or the SU department! They cannot waive you into a class.
Review the information in STEP FOUR: After Online Registration
Make any changes you want during the registration period. Once your registration appointment ends on Friday, May 30 at 3:00 pm Eastern time, you will have to wait until the schedule adjustment period in Strasbourg to make changes. You will receive more information on academic deadlines and the process for schedule adjustment during Orientation.
Our office may remove you from any class for which you are deemed ineligible (e.g. don’t meet the prerequisite or enrolled in a main campus or College of Professional Studies class without confirmation from our office). Syracuse Abroad makes every attempt to notify students via their syr.edu email, so be sure to regularly read your syr.edu messages!
