A. All Madrid students, whether matriculated at SU or visiting from other home institutions, have access to these online resources. Use the links on this page under Related Links to view them. Brief course descriptions are available under Resources. (On desktop computers, they appear at the upper left side of the page.)
A. Short answer: Sorry, no.
Longer answer: Per SU Department of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics policy, students may not earn credit for a course lower than their placement exam result or that repeats prior study. But please don't worry! We can reassure you that:
You likely have greater aptitude than you think you do.
Living in Madrid is like being in a 24/7 language lab, so it's common to progress very quickly.
When you arrive in Madrid, our Spanish faculty will conduct an individual assessment to make sure you're enrolled in the appropriate language level for you.
By the same token, if you have AP or other transfer credit for a specific level of Spanish, you may not take that level again without forfeiting the credit. You should register for the next higher level of Spanish in Madrid.
A. If you and/or your advisor(s) have any changes to the courses you originally pre-selected, it's no problem. Please draw a single line through the previous course(s) on a hard copy, and then hand-write in the new course selection(s) — without obscuring your original course selections, please! — before you scan and upload it. (If you choose to edit the document electronically, please make sure you leave your original selections visible, so we know to adjust the counts downward in the previously chosen courses.)
When you upload your revised form to Student Advising Form (with Advisor's Signature), you will find a dropdown menu (see screenshot below). From this menu, choose "Changes have been made to my course selections on my Student Advising Form." This will alert our office to record your changes as we assess demand for each course.
A. We're referring to an advisor at your home college or university. Visiting students may want to first ask their study abroad office who should sign. At some institutions, it's your study abroad advisor; at others, it's an academic advisor who is familiar with the requirements of your degree program. (You may even need to consult with more than one advisor, if different people advise you about your major and minor or dual degrees, for instance). When you submit your SAF, the system generates a PDF that you can share with your advisor(s).
Please don't be shy; ask away! Your question could be on this page, helping other students like you.
Head to OrangeAbroad to access your online Student Advising Form (SAF).
