Our office will pre-register you for CAS 200, and BPS 400 and/or the optional Signature Seminar (BIO 312) if applicable.
Our office adds CAS 200 and BIO 312 (the Signature Seminar) to your schedule before online registration starts. If you're placed in an internship, you'll be registered for BPS 400 when you are in Madrid, after your placement is confirmed.
You will have an opportunity to make changes to your registration in MySlice—drop and add classes—starting at noon on Wednesday, January 7. Schedule adjustment details will be released closer to the start date.
Note that add/drop and pass/fail/audit deadlines are usually different from those on Main Campus.
Listen up, sports fans! We're excited to announce the introduction of several new courses to Madrid for spring 2026:
SOC 367 - Sociology of Sport (M/W 2:00-3:25pm)
How does sport shape who we are — and what does it reveal about the societies we build? Sociology of Sport dives deep into the global sport industry, from elite stadiums to street-level fandoms, through the lenses of sociologists Norbert Elias and Pierre Bourdieu. You’ll explore how power, identity, money, and culture collide in the games we play — comparing U.S. and European (especially Spanish) contexts while living and learning in one of the most sport-obsessed cities in the world. Whether you’re an athlete, a diehard fan, or just curious about why sport matters so much, this course gives you the tools to unpack the social forces behind competition, community, and spectacle. No prerequisites, just bring your curiosity and your passion for the game.
SPM 300.1 – The Spanish Sports Ecosystem (Tues 4:00-6:50pm)
Through case studies, expert guest sessions, and experiential visits, you'll explore the importance of sport to Spain's national identity. How do Spanish sporting legends like Rafa Nadal and Pau Gasol, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, simultaneously reflect and shape Spain's culture as a nation and on the world stage? What are the institutions and values that influence the Spanish sports industry, and how does it function as an economic driver?
COM 300.1 - Sports and the Media in Spain (M/W 5:30-6:55pm)
In this course, you'll investigate how sports media are leading the way as social networks have transformed how we consume sports storytelling, and broadcasters have scrambled to innovate to keep up. You'll compare sports media of different global regions and examine how differences in cultures and values are transmitted during the biannual sporting event with a truly global audience — the summer and winter Olympic Games.
As a complement to the new courses above, we're offering two sections of The Business of Sport:
SPM/BUA 300.3 (Wed only, 12:30-3:20pm)
SPM/BUA 300.4 (Wed only, 3:45-6:35pm)
The Business of Sport will equip you with the necessary tools and knowledge to analyze, evaluate and make management decisions in the context of sports business. You'll participate in company visits and meetings with professionals in the Spanish sports industry.
We have added several additional sections due to demand:
HOA 209.3 (Arts of Spain) - T/Th 3:50-5:25pm
HOA 300.2 (Walking Madrid: A Historical and Artistic Journey) - M/W 12:30-1:55pm
PSC422.2/HST 412.2 (Modern Spain: History & Politics) -
M/W 4:00-5:25pm
SPA 101.3 (Spanish 1) - M/T/W/Th 12:30-1:55pm
These new sections should allow students to move to a new section if they find the section they originally selected to be full. Add alternative sections to your Shopping Cart so you're ready in the event of a closed section.
BPS 400 (The Global Workplace) will meet on occasional Mondays only, 7:00-8:30pm
PSY 382 (Health Psychology) will meet T/Th, 12:30-1:55pm
PSY 393 (Personality) will meet T/Th, 10:30-11:55am
Note that per course demand, only one section of PSY 393 will be offered.
These changes are reflected on the updated Sp26 Madrid Schedule of Classes and Timetable. If you planned to take PSY 382 and/or PSY 383, please review the updated Timetable now to find and address any scheduling conflicts.
If you have expressed interest in an internship by submitting the Internship Request Form in OrangeAbroad, please see the Internships webpage for details.
Some course subjects are in high demand abroad. In these cases, we sometimes need to limit the number of courses available to non-majors. This policy is designed in the interest of fairness, to maximize the number of students who have access to a course listed under a popular topic while studying in Madrid.
If you disregard these directives and do not meet the requirements according to the transcript information available to us, you will be dropped from the additional restricted course. (MySlice will not prevent you from registering for more than one of these courses.)
Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.
Only Art History majors may register online for two HOA courses; all other students are limited to one HOA course.
Only Economics majors may register online for two ECN courses; all other students are limited to one ECN course.
Only Political Science/Public Policy/Government majors may register online for two PSC courses; all other students are limited to one PSC course.
Only Psychology majors may register online for two PSY courses; all other students are limited to one PSY course.
Additional seats in enrollment-restricted courses above may be available during online Schedule Adjustment, if space remains after majors have been seated.
Newhouse and public communications majors have priority enrollment in COM 350 and COM 400.
Based on information from the submitted Course Preference Forms, some courses are likely to reach capacity and close during registration. Be sure to have some alternative classes identified (and placed in your Shopping Cart in MySlice), in case a class you hoped to take is full when you register. If you need to re-work your schedule when these classes fill, we've identified courses to consider as alternatives. (This list is not intended as a complete list of all classes that will close.)
Remember to check for any time conflicts with your alternative course selections.
