You will have an opportunity to make changes to your Madrid schedule starting Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at noon Eastern US time.
We strongly encourage you to discuss any potential changes with your academic advisor before making them.
You must maintain a registration of at least 12 credits taken abroad. These credits do not include the 3-credit optional Signature Seminar or courses enrolled through SU's main campus or College of Professional Studies. (Visiting students may have a higher credit minimum per their home institution.)
Because you cannot drop below 12 credits, you may have to SWAP a class (rather than drop a class, then add another). See page 7 of the Online Enrollment Guide for details.
You cannot change your SPA class(es). Any adjustments to Spanish classes must be made in person after you arrive in Madrid. After you attend your first class, if your professor determines that you are in an inappropriate level, we will administratively correct your enrollment at that time.
You cannot drop or add CAS 200, a program-required course.
You cannot drop or add the optional Signature Seminar.
Some classes are open only to students admitted to a Special Program (see Schedule of Classes). These classes cannot be dropped or added.
These deadlines control when you may no longer add or drop classes:
ADD deadline: Monday, February 2 at 11:59 PM (Madrid local time)
DROP deadline: Monday, February 16 at 11:59 PM (Madrid local time)
As when you initially registered, searching in MySlice for Syracuse Abroad classes will NOT work. Use the 5-digit codes found on the Madrid Schedule of Classes.
(Remember to use the Timetable of classes to avoid schedule conflicts.)
All classes have an enrollment cap; you will only be able to add classes on a space-available basis.
If there is a full class you hope to add, check frequently throughout the schedule adjustment period in case a seat opens up.
DO NOT contact professors to request that they add you to a closed course. They cannot do so, and they cannot exceed the cap that is on the course.
Remember: Once you drop a class, that seat is open to another student. Please bear this in mind, as you may not be able to get back into the class if you have second thoughts!
You must maintain a registration of at least 12 credits taken abroad, not including the 3-credit optional Signature Seminar or courses enrolled through main campus or the College of Professional Studies. (Visiting students may have a higher credit minimum per their home institution.)
Some Holds may prevent you from adjusting your schedule. Check now for holds on your account by logging into MySlice > Student Home > "Enrollment" Tile > Holds. Resolve any holds in advance with the office that has placed the hold.
You will receive an academic calendar for your semester abroad from the Madrid Center, posted for all students in Blackboard, which includes dates and deadlines that differ from main campus.
Students interested in updating the prefix of a cross-listed course will be given instructions and a deadline onsite during Orientation (Schedule Adjustment is not that process).
SU students will continue to receive emails from main campus. It can be confusing, especially when they relate to academic dates and deadlines. Remember to follow the information provided by the Madrid Center. Reach out to our colleague the Madrid Center Academic Office, and reach out if you have any questions!
Before classes start and through your first class session(s), you may want to swap one class for another, add a new class, or drop a class from your schedule.
After the Add deadline of February 2 at 11:59 PM (Madrid local time), MySlice will not allow you to select new classes. This means the add and swap functions will no longer be available.
Syracuse undergraduate tuition covers up to 19 credits, so you may not exceed this cap unless you've made prior arrangements. Syracuse Abroad online registration is capped at 17 and requires a minimum of 12 credits. You may have to SWAP to avoid falling below 12 credits or going above 17.
For any courses you intend to DROP, please read the additional restrictions in the "DROP ONLY" section below.
You can drop classes anytime during schedule adjustment through the Drop deadline of February 16 at 11:59 PM (Madrid local time), with these exceptions:
No student may drop below 12 credits of Madrid courses (excluding the Signature Seminar).
You may not drop CAS 200 (Mapping Spain) or your SPA class(es) because both CAS 200 and Spanish study are requirements of the program.
You may not drop BIO 312, the optional SIgnature Seminar.
You should first review in advance any plans to drop a class with your academic advisor to ensure you will stay on track for graduation.
Remember that when you drop a class, you give up your seat for another student to take. You may not be able to re-enroll if you change your mind.
