These FAQs are to be used in conjunction with information in STEPS ONE, TWO, THREE, and FOUR. They should NOT be considered a shortcut, nor a resource to be used instead of thoroughly reviewing all information on this site. Students who carefully prepare for registration by reading through all STEPS, using the Shopping Cart in advance, and registering as soon as their appointment allows will have the best chance of getting into their preferred courses. Please consider yourself strongly advised.

Updated Schedule of Classes
You will find your individual registration start time in the message under OrangeAbroad > Registration Appointment and Instructions.
Syracuse Abroad registration appointments also appear in MySlice; under Enrollment Dates, see the appointment for “Flex Long Class.”
All London students’ online registration appointments expire at 3:00 pm ET time on Friday, June 13. After this time, you will not be able to adjust your schedule until online Schedule Adjustment opens.
You will find your individual registration start time in OrangeAbroad under Registration Appointment and Instructions. The earlier you get online to register for your classes abroad, the better your chances of getting into your first-choice courses. Having all your primary course selections and alternative courses placed in your shopping cart is advised and discussed in detail in STEP TWO: Get Ready.
You should get online to register as soon as possible once your appointment starts, but do understand that you could be closed out of courses you had intended to register for. If you do not register during the online registration period (ending June 13 at 3pm), our office will assist you with registering for the minimum 12 credits required to study abroad from courses still available.
Sign in to OrangeAbroad. Your SUID number is located under Applicant Home > Profile Tab.
Follow the instructions at the NetID Self-Serv portal.
Go to the NetID Self-Serv portal. The characters that are before @syr.edu in your email account = your NetID!
Our office cannot remove holds. You must resolve the hold with the office that has placed the hold. In MySlice > Student Home > Holds, click on the link of the hold to find contact info.
Review Shopping Cart in STEP TWO: Get Ready.
A copy was sent to the email you entered when you submitted it. Make sure you're looking at the latest one if you submitted more than one!
Yes, as long as you are eligible for it (for example, you meet any pre-requisite). Syracuse Abroad recommends you discuss any changes with your academic advisor(s).
You cannot register for classes that run at the same times. You need to be available for the entire meeting time of each class. Select the course you most want to take.
Log in to MySlice > Student Home > Enrollment. The link is also found in OrangeAbroad > Registration Appointment and Instructions.
Follow the instructions in STEP THREE: Register!
Do not SEARCH for classes! Do not use SCHEDULE BUILDER or MY PLANNER! This is by far the most common error made during online registration for Syracuse Abroad classes.
You can find the five-digit class numbers in the first column of the Updated Schedule of Classes.
Our office will administratively you for CAS 200. We will also register students for any class listed as ADMIN. You may not self-register for a class listed as ADMIN.
All London students must register for at least 12 credits taught in London to meet the minimum required by the program and U.K. immigration. The following do NOT count toward your 12-credit minimum, but do count toward your maximum 19-credits covered by tuition:
Your Signature Seminar course
Online credits with a Main Campus or College of Professional Studies instructor
Independent study or experience credit with a Main Campus sponsor
On occasion, a course may be cancelled due to insufficient demand or a meeting time changed due to circumstances outside Syracuse Abroad’s control. Cancelled courses and other schedule changes are listed in STEP ONE: Review Updates.
Check the Schedule of Classes. If the class number is highlighted in grey, this is a cross-listed course, and the course is registered under another prefix (it IS the same class!). A single class number for all prefixes provides the maximum number of available seats for the class. You will be able to correct your registration once you get to London so that it reflects the subject prefix you want or need.
Some classes have seats reserved for specific populations (e.g., certain majors). If this is the case, although you will see that seats remain open, they are available only to specific populations. If you don’t meet the criteria for enrollment, MySlice will indicate to you that the class is full even though seats technically remain.
Select an alternative course! Be sure that you are registered for a minimum of 12 credits (not counting a Signature Seminar) and keep trying to add/drop/swap through the online registration appointment. If you still can't secure a seat, review Step Four: After Registration
Yes. All students must take a minimum of 12 credits that meet in London and during the semester to comply with both our program and U.K. immigration requirements.
During online registration for London, you are limited to a maximum of 17 credits unless you requested a higher credit load prior to registration.
Please note that if you seek to register for any credits over the amount of 19 (including the 3-credit Signature Seminar), those credits count toward your total semester credits and are subject to additional per-credit tuition charges. For detailed information, see the latest Tuition, Fees, and Related Policies Bulletin.
Review the information in STEP TWO ,under sub-heading: Check Prerequisites for the process you should follow.
If you can’t register for a course that is currently in your Shopping Cart, first try removing it from your cart and then re-add it. If you continue to have problems, review the Troubleshooting page, which includes info on common errors. If this doesn’t address your problem, email Christi Jennings with the error message you receive, including a screenshot.
MySlice generates an alert (an exclamation point) to flag when two classes are close together in time. This is simply for your information. Most classes overseas meet in the same building, so this is generally not a problem and you can ignore it.
MySlice will not allow you to register for classes with overlapping time conflicts.
Please do not email the professor of the class or the SU department! They cannot waive you into a class.
Continue to try to add the course until the close of the online registration appointment: June 13 at 3pm
If you are closed out of a course that you believe you must take this semester in order to graduate on time, check with your home college to see if another course will meet the same requirement or if you have any other registration options. If you have no other options, start the Academic Need Verification Form and ask that your advisor complete and submit it. IMPORTANT: This form must be signed by a school official who is familiar with all of your remaining degree requirements. For matriculated SU students, this should be your primary school or college academic advisor.
You will have another opportunity to add/drop/swap classes during online Schedule Adjustment.
Make any changes you want during the registration period! Once online registration ends (Friday, June 13 at 3pm), you will not be able to make any more changes to your schedule online.
Then, before you go abroad, you will have another opportunity to add/drop/swap classes during online Schedule Adjustment. More information will be shared about this process in early December. Continue to check your email!
Our office may remove you from any class for which you are deemed ineligible (for example, don’t meet the minimum GPA requirement, don’t meet the pre-requisite, registered for more than one restricted class). Syracuse Abroad makes every attempt to notify students by their syr.edu email, so be sure to regularly read your syr.edu messages, or have your messages automatically forwarded to a preferred email account.
