COURSE INFORMATION

All the courses expected to be offered this semester are listed on the provisional Schedule of Classes. Syracuse University reserves the right to cancel a course with low enrollment.

• For some courses, more than one section appears on the schedule. Extra sections are offered only if there is sufficient demand based on submitted Course Preference Forms (CPF). If you are especially interested in a course with more than one section, we suggest you work out a schedule(s) that allows you to take either offered time slot, in the event one section is cancelled or closes earlier during registration.

• Where there is greater demand than space available in a course, seats are given to majors, then minors or others who can demonstrate academic need (i.e., the course fulfills a specific requirement that cannot be met by another course) and who have listed the course among their Primary Course Selections on the CPF. 

• Be sure you have met all prerequisites for courses you plan to take. Prerequisites are indicated in course descriptions, with equivalent courses described for visiting students. If you do not meet the prerequisite, you should not include the course on your CPF.

• Many courses get you out of the classroom and into museums and cultural centers where you will view or experience what you are studying. Some of these courses carry fees for study tours, site visits, activities, or supplies that are an integral part of the course. Course fees for Fall 2024 are listed here.

  • • If you register for any course with a mandatory study tour, you must participate in this field study. Do not plan personal travel until you get to Florence and know when you may be required to take part in any class-related study tours, all-program trips, make-up classes, exam periods, and other academic commitments.

• HST/PSC 453 - Twentieth-Century Europe

• IRP/PSC 300.1 - Famine, War and Other Disasters: European Security in the 21st Century

• PSC 453 - Twentieth-Century Europe

• PSC 380.3 Politics of Economic Globalization (previously offered through University of Florence in English program)

Any cancellations due to insufficient student interest will be communicated in the Registration Information that you will receive by email in late May.

• HST 380.1 - Economic History of Globalization (open only to students on the University of Florence in English program)

ACADEMIC POLICIES

IMPORTANT: You must remain in good academic standing to participate in our program. If you are placed on academic probation prior to departure, you may be withdrawn from the program. You should carefully review other academic policies applicable to all Syracuse Abroad programs.

• At Syracuse University, all work for registered classes must be completed on or before the degree certification date. If you are graduating, you should seek advice from your home college regarding your degree certification date, and also be certain that you are aware of any remaining degree requirements.

• Information on enrollment policies, grades, SU library resources, registration, internships and independent research can be found on the Preparing To Go website. Visiting students should also look at this website for information on transfer credit and requesting an SU transcript.

• For SU students only: if you need to take an SU main campus or College of Professional Studies online course during a semester abroad, first review Syracuse Abroad-specific requirements and advice.

• Arrangements to do coursework on an independent research basis, if needed to satisfy a degree requirement, must be made in advance. Due date for proposals is May 15.
