Restricted Courses

Please be aware of the following restrictions when selecting your courses during online registration. These courses are extremely popular and we'd like to give everyone the best opportunity to take one! 

• Art History Course Restriction > Courses that start with the prefix HOA

Only Art History majors may register for two Art History courses, all other students may choose one. A course that is cross-listed with an HOA course applies. 

• Psychology Course Restriction > Courses that start with the prefix PSY

Only Psychology majors may register for two Psychology courses, all other students may choose one.

• Sociology Course Restriction > Courses that start with the prefix SOC

Only Sociology majors may register for two Sociology courses, all other students may choose one. A course that is cross-listed with a SOC course applies.

Special Permission Courses

To register for any special permission course(s) during online registration, you need permission from our office. 

If you wish to be considered for any of these course(s), you must:

• Add the course to your Primary Course Selections on your CPF, specifying which section when applicable.

• Submit your CPF by the May 6 deadline.  

• Make sure you have met all course prerequisites.

You will receive an email (to your syr.edu email address) with additional information once all CPFs have been reviewed (and prior to online registration). Please note the priority enrollment details that are found in the Schedule of Classes. 

Students that do not have priority enrollment or receive special permission may have an opportunity to enroll in the course, based on seat availability following priority enrollment. If space is available, students that expressed their interest on the CPF as a Primary Course Selection will be considered, in addition to student major and academic need.
