IMPORTANT! Participating in ANY internship while studying in London — remote or in-person internship; London-based, US-based, or otherwise — requires a UK student visa unless you hold a UK passport. You MUST have completed the Internship & Work Study Request Form and applied for this visa through the London Center. NO EXCEPTIONS.
To participate in an internship in London, you must have completed and submitted the Internship Request Form on your OrangeAbroad application. Because special visas are required per UK immigration, placements for internships are strictly limited and deadlines firm. The deadline to participate for Fall 2025 has passed.
Students who have NOT met the above requirements,
even if they have arranged for a US-based internship with a Main Campus sponsor,
MAY NOT PARTICIPATE in an internship while studying in London.
Students participating in the Architecture special program and the Whitman Core special program may not participate in an internship.
If you've committed to the internship program, you will be registered for 3-credit course BPS400 - The Global Workplace. Include BPS400 on your CPF to get the full picture of your academic plan for your semester abroad. You will not be able to register yourself for BPS400, this will be done for you prior to online registration.
Seek advising from your home school or college; learn about limitations, restrictions or additional requirements for earning credit!
Some students may need to complete an Internship Proposal/Agreement form (found on the Office of the Registrar Student Forms page) with participation of a home campus faculty sponsor and final approval from the home school/college. Using this process,
SU iSchool students may request to update 1-credit of BPS400 to IST471.
SU Newhouse students in communications internships may request to update 2-credits of BPS400 to COM470.
Note that attendance of The Global Workplace course is required of all students participating in an internship regardless of how they are earning credit!
Some students will update their initial registration of BPS400 to another cross-listing following the Add Deadline (after the first week of classes).
Please read additional details below to see if any of these pertain to you:
SU Music Industry majors/minors in music industry placements will update their registration to MUI 408 – Music Industry Practicum: The Global Workplace.
SU Bandier students in entertainment industry placements will update their registration to BAN 403 - Entertainment Industry Practicum: The Global Workplace.
SU Human Development and Family Science students in placements related to this major or minor update their registration to HFS 493 - Youth and Family Practicum: The Global Workplace.
Students with questions regarding internships or concerns about scheduling around them should contact Charlie Loynes, London Internship Program Manager. Note there is no alternative to the posted time available to attend BPS400.
