I began my research by going to Van Gogh's Immersive website to gather foundational information. Next, I used the Syracuse databases and found a relevant primary source for my paper. I searched keywords such as Van Gogh Immersive Experience and Technology, and a list of sources was populated. I reviewed several articles and chose the one that best supported my argument. Through this process, I made a conscious effort to apply the BEAM model to assess the sources effectively.
Once I identified my article, I employed the rhetorical summary method to create a detailed summary, focusing on the audience, primarily social media and art enthusiasts. I identified the purpose of the article as a critique of how social media transforms the way people engage with art. The piece is a nonfiction work written by an art journalist, Kate Mondloch, and sourced from Proquest. This article was cited twice in my paper because it incorporated diverse perspectives from multiple art journalists, the two I highlighted were Kate Mondloch and Rebecca Carlson, as they helped enrich my analysis. This summary was invaluable during my writing process, as it provided a clear and efficient reference point for my analysis of my paper.
Following this, I found a secondary source to deepen my understanding of Van Gogh as an artist and his lifestyle. My objective was to establish a comprehensive background on Van Gogh and express his importance as an artist, and how he drives powerful artistic connections with people. After reading multiple sources, I selected an article from “ The Collector” written by an author with a bachelor's degree in Art History. The source's credibility and reliability further strengthen my argument.
Overall, I found the research process engaging. I applied critical evaluation skills learned in class to identify and use credible sources. My biggest challenge was selecting the most appropriate and relevant sources for my paper. However, I'm confident in the sources I used and how they contribute to my paper’s argument. This experience has been instrumental in refining my research and analytical skills and helping me grow to be a more effective writer.
