The English Department offers students a range of opportunities to experience the language in authentic and practical settings.
Every year, our students participate in the Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival, giving them an opportunity to showcase their public speaking skills.
The department has also hosted guest speakers from the American Chamber of Commerce. Annually, the SPCA gives talks to our students regarding responsible pet ownership.
Summerbridge is organised each summer and a number of students are selected to participate in this month-long program that aims to develop students’ English communication, academic, and life skills through hands-on learning experiences.
Within the school, English Explorers are language ambassadors who mentor and lead English activities. In the past, Explorers have worked together with volunteers from Renaissance College. Our Explorers also help run the annual English Camp held in July.
Our students have also made their mark within the community winning awards like the Harvard Book Prize Scholarship 2018. In recognition of his excellent English proficiency as well as personal qualities, Ben Chu won the Scholarship and was eligible for an all expenses paid summer programme at Harvard University. Like the Harvard Club of Hong Kong, we aim to nurture students with overall academic excellence and notable contributions to the school and community.
