Intervention Programs

The Title 1 staff provides teacher-directed Instruction to students, who are performing below grade level peers, individually or in small group setting.  Some examples of skills that are taught in a direct instruction program in reading in the areas of phonics awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.  Math skills involving number sense, structuring, place value, and basic operations are also taught through direct instruction.  This instruction takes place during regular school hours.

PROGRAMS used depending on grade level and student need.

*SPIRE: This is being used in the K-2 classrooms along with Title interventions. We have seen great success with this program in the Title program. SPIRE is engaging for the students and works on spelling, reading, and writing using a variety of different tools. 

*Susan Barton Reading and Spelling:  This is a one-on-one research-based tutoring system that helps to improve the spelling, reading, and writing skills of children.  Students receive instruction five days a week for a period of 20-25 minutes.  Through the use of colored tiles, students gain a better understanding of the rules for decoding and syllable division.

*PRESS:  Pathway to Reading Excellence in School Sites is a framework that structures literacy achievement in grades K-5, within the multi-tiered systems of support.  It is intervention that covers the essential areas of reading:  phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

*Add-Vantage Math Recovery  and SNAP Intervention:  This is a math intervention program that uses assessment to inform instruction focusing on five task areas:  Number Sense, Structuring, Addition and Subtraction, Place Value, and Multiplication and Division.
