Welcome to 8th grade General Music! This is an outline of what we will be doing this semester
You will need a notebook and a pencil.
Quarter 1:
Unit 1: Basic Music Theory
You will learn the basics of music notation, treble clef notes, bass clef notes, counter melody, chord progressions, rhythms, time signatures, and accidentals. As a final project you will write a short melody with either a counter melody or chord progressions and it will be performed on your choice of instrument(s) by you or classmates who have agreed to perform it for you.
Unit 2: Song analysis
You will be working on a life soundtrack. We will talk about the songs you have chosen and analyze lyrics, rhythm, and emotion within the songs you choose.
Unit 3: Music History
We will learn about different genres of music and how they are linked to music we listen to today. You will research composers and give a presentation on your composer. We will create a Music History Timeline as we go.
Unit 4: Guitar
We will now work on Guitar 101. Guitar 101 is a computer program that will help us learn how to play the guitar.
