i've linked the document, since i pretty much just read off of that. the class seems invested, which is a good sign.
mood boarding isn't something i've always done, nor is it something that has ever really helped me solidify my story, so i was wary of how much i wanted to invest in the quality of the board. however, as i started, i found the act of compiling the mood board to be very helpful regarding the narrowing of the vision i was presenting. when certain images just clicked for me, i could analyze what about them it was that i liked. that ended up translating into a clarity in expressing what i could see in my little mental movie, but couldn't figure out how to put to words.
i made a playlist for this film when i was working on my third pass, trying to nail down the vibe i was looking for. i'm actually really proud of what i came up with, and i want to expand on what in particular about each song made me select it for the list. maybe this will help me hone in on my direction moving forward, maybe all i'll get out of it is the satisfaction of talking about my music.
you can find the playlist here if you're inclined to listen to it.Â

i work better on calendars when i make them in google sheets, so that's why this is the way it is. days will be greyed out as they pass.
i've been mulling over possible titles for this piece. i feel like i need to come up with a more succinct way of referring to this than "title to be expanded once the project takes form" or "i dunno, tk's radical i guess". as such, i've decided to start workshopping potential titles. more to come as i think of more i guess.
ajar
the original title of the piece, i still kinda like it
plays into the voyuerism aspect
helps to explain the aspect ratio of the screened version, and the presentation method of the installation
the garden
plays to the "garden" metaphor throughout
may help guide the viewer to the story i'm trying to get at
i don't love it :/
feels very "on-the-nose" for an abstract film
after it all, you still don't get it
i'm a sucker for a needlessly long title
pokes at the viewer (my favorite pass-time)
leans into the weirdness/vagueness of the story and theme
title to be expanded once the project is realized
current title
i'm a little attached to it ngl
makes me feel like the piece is ever evolving
ties into the idea that you only get it once you get what the story is about
pass 3
the pitched title
dan did tell me that he liked it
idk it feels good
in class today, we talked about narrowing our piece down to a single word or phrase, and then generating a list of images and sounds invoked by that phrase. the list i generated is mostly nonsensical, but it makes sense to me, which is really the only part that matters.
what is it about?
artistic voyuerism
consumption and destruction
the viewer as the voyeur
voyeurism of the artist
images and sounds associated with this idea:
the title card to "doodlebug", chris nolan's student film
a door kept ajar
Mr. Brightside by the Killers
slices of light
paintings
abstract
peeling
the Kubrick Stare
the hum of fluorescent lights
whispers
"through the closet door" shots
static TV's
both the image and the sound
fiskars
the scissors, not the cars
a maze of dropcloths
two of the very different call sheets i made for my two shoot days. one shoot was planned a significant amount ahead of time, one shoot wasn't even a thought in my head until two days before it happened.
