No experience is required, and both in-person hive visits and meetings take place throughout the year!

Purpose
1. To maintain RIT and community beehives
2. To promote sustainability at RIT
3. To research honey bees and other current environmental issues
4. To educate people on the importance of bees and pollinators
5. To participate in current community efforts and work with local beekeepers
What do we actually do? Wonder what it looks like to join?
Hive inspections and maintenance
Hive inspections occur 1-3 times a week. Students can sign-up for a time slot.
General maintenance
Queen health and brood patterns
Marking the queen
Varroa mite checks and treatment with oxalic acid
Adding/removing boxes to give more space for honey or brood
Response to swarming behaviors/catching swarms
Honey extractions sign-ups will be available on the hive inspection page

We actively engage with the sustainability department at RIT

Crafts at meetings will use parts of the hive and sustainably sourced materials

We sell honey extracted from our hives by our members
Other goods made during meetings will be sold
