6th Grade SOS

Hello 6th Grade Parents! I will be using email and my counseling page to communicate with you about all things 6th. I have already visited your child's classroom multiple times for guidance lessons and spoken to them about getting ready for 6th grade transition to 7th grade. We have we a lot of work to do before we can choose classes for 7th grade. (This will happen in January and February 2024.)

But we will take it one month at a time. This month is National Suicide Prevention month. The district is providing lots of information for parents on the topic of prevention. I will be teaching a lesson for 6th graders on Suicide Prevention. The objective is for students to be aware and recognize warning signs of distress. Please note that the focus is to teach prevention. I am attaching a parent preview link for the Signs of Suicide Prevention lesson that will be taught on Thursday November 2, 2023.

Our district uses SOS Signs of Suicide to teach suicide prevention through the acronym A.C.T. (Acknowledge, Care, and Tell). We encourage families to visit the SOS Parent Portal to learn more about suicide prevention efforts and helpful tools for supporting your chid’s mental health. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me

RISD will be providing hotline numbers to students.

All 6th-12th grade students have the Suicide Prevention Hotline phone number and text number on the back of their student ID cards.

Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns.
