Magnet Junior High Info
Richardson ISD has two Magnet Schools in Junior High. Richardson West Visual Arts and Technology Magnet and Westwood Math, Science, and Leadership Magnet.
Students must apply to the Magnet School Program in order to be considered for the programs. Students are chosen through a lottery system with the exception of the Visual and Theater Arts magnet programs at West-acceptance for these 2 programs are project based and through interviews. What is CogAT?
The CogAT is an ability test that measures a student’s learned reasoning and problem-solving skills in 3 domains: Verbal, Quantitative, and Nonverbal. Each section is timed since fluency is a component of ability.
All 6th grade students take the CogAT test regardless of current GT/REACH status.

Health & PE Department
To find out more about Health, PE, and Athletics click on heart on the left.
Physicals are only required if your student is participating in a sport like: football, basketball, soccer, tennis, cross country, and track and field.
Physical forms must be turned in to the appropriate Junior High by end of the year or beginning of the next school year. Reminder to bring the UIL physical forms with you for your student's doctor to fill out.
If your student is taking PE, they do not need to have a physical completed.
